Icebomb5 I agree with you . It was not the best but I think the concept was there. The trailer hyped it up too much thought. That was my major problem with that. The trailer gave the idea that the movie was going to be funnier and exciting. "A time of your life" Or "run for your money" I just hope this does not happen to the Deadpool movie. One of the main cast of this movie is heading the movie Deadpool. So fingers cross it does not go this way of "comedy".

It was alright, I left liking it but the more I though about it the less I liked it. As I stated in my own post I liked all the actors performances but like he said they just did not work well together. The 'Girl' cop in the movie made me want to rip my armpit hair out she was so dry. I did like the Chinese guy cloak, and naturally the thing I liked best with the comedy is replaced at the end LOL. Zalright movie just glad I saw it in the $1.50 theater ;)

Just watched this movie today. Correction: attempted to watch this movie today. When it got to the scene he described with Jeff Bridges' character being dragged around the town bouncing off the buildings and people were supposedly able to see all this happening, I just noped out. Bad CGI, bad acting, and lazy story telling and I couldn't be bothered to give a shit about the rest of the story. Sad to know that garbage like this is able to be made when there are hundreds of passionate scripts floating around hollywood which can't even get their foot in the door. Fucking hell Ryan, what were you thinking.

Everyone says the RIPD took MIB and gave it a supernatural treatment when it's more accurate to say that it gave the TV show G vs. E the MIB treatment. In G vs. E, The main character it murdered, but is too bad to go to heaven yet too good to go to Hell. He is recruited into the Corps and assigned to a veteran officer, to police demons and mortals who've made a pact with them. Corps agents will not be recognized by anyone from their past lives and can die a second time causing immediate judgment of their soul. G vs. E has a darker and more serious tone than RIPD. The veteran officer is based on Shaft, rather than a cowboy, and in place of magic guns, the Corps weapons are daggers bathed in the blood of innocent mortals. The Corps agents did not have superpowers yet the demons did. The demons would disguise them selves as humans but could be revealed by a mirror, rather than whatever the spice was in the movie. There's also a great deal of biblical references in the show. The show ran for 2 seasons in the late 90's. I haven't found any evidence to support this claim, but the story of RIPD is such a cut and paste of G vs. E into the MIB plot, that the movie had to be inspired by it.

I actually enjoyed this movie. Had plenty of funny bits, Ryan's character and Jeff's were constantly at each other throats but it made sense with Ryan just dying and trying to reach to his love. Had only one problem and that was it Ryan's death. Bacon's character didn't have to kill Ryan to get the gold back, Ryan had wanted nothing to do with the gold because if his girl found out, she would've been unhappy.

I didn't think it was a bad movie, just not a particularly good one. And as to it being a rip-off....well unless you're going to start deducting points from EVERYTHING you shouldn't really hold that against it. I mean that is just the current state of Hollywood right now; rip-off factory. Everything is either a remake, reboot, rip-off, or based-on; there are no original movies.

Ah, I had such good hopes that even though it looked like a MIB rip-off meets Constantine, it would be fun, cause of Bridges and Reynolds. The premise that spirits don't want to leave earth and so heavenlyish forces that are recently deceased police/cops have to collect them could be a really cool movie. If they didn't mash it completely with MIB and made it terrible. Its always sad when something that could've been cool gets trashed to try to entertain kids. they could've done some deep shit like 'how death is a real thing and you have to move on' or something but No. they have to ruin it to try to rip off MIB

cleaver comment, and an interesting observation. however, between them the film is still much closer to Good Vs. Evil. Dead Like Me is a dark drama/comedy, which mainly centers around the natural order of life. in the case of G vs. E, and R.I.P.D. they both clearly fall into the sci-fi/action genre, though they also have humorous elements. in Dead Like Me, characters serve as Reapers, to maintain the balance of life. in G Vs. E, and R.I.P.D. those agents are waging a war against demonic forces.

Dead Policemen working for heaven's police force, dead spirits roaming the earth, spritual guns? Sounds like Bleach to me, only a lot of difference but the core concept was 90% similar. The Heaven's cops are like the western versions of the Quincies, Dead-os are the western versions of the Hollows, however unlike those monstrously powerful Hollows, Dead-os are humanlike and weak

Sometimes I think people get so caught up in the idea of "formulaic = bad" that they can't appreciate when a formula is done fairly well. That's what this flick is to me, a been-done-a-lot-before formula but with a cool concept and done well. Don't take it seriously -- it's a genre mash-up that basically answers the question "What would happen if Men in Black, Boondock Saints, and 3:10 To Yuma had a baby?" It mentions coyote skull-fucking! Come on!

As someone who has read the comic that this thing was based on, I can say that R.I.P.D. can KISS MY ASS!!! Seriously guys, the first 4 issues of the comic are pretty damn good - nothing revolutionary, but still pretty good. If you can find them, read them - you won't regret it. And if you like those 4, seek out R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned, which explains Roy's backstory and has a very engaging plotline. Trust ,me, you won't regret it!

The Fountain Repomen (Had a pretty good twist) Vanillia Sky (Didn't see that shit comin) Seven (The what's in the box moment) Identity (I figured it out...but i dont think it was predictable) The Spirit (Never in a million years woulda predicted that sam L would be filmed in a Nazi Costume) OldBoy (Damn that twist was twisted) John Dies at the End (Never once thought dude was black...oh and dead) Donnie Darko (just...weird) Butterfly Effect Fight Club. I found this movie very good and original. Now, Im not saying that this is the best movie or even the best movie of the year but this movie has a lot of what most movies lack... A good combination of comedy, action, and decent effects (not a low budget flick). People tend to hate on movies that remind them of movies with bigger names that did something similar (IMB in this case) but what people fail to understand is that holywood cant keep coming up with new ideas without somehow reusing something from an older movie. I give this movie an 8 out of 10.

I have noticed that some people find it easier to just hit the Enter button than to be troubled with trivialities like capitalization and punctuation. That's just sad.

True, mostly I was attempting to bring attention to the simple fact that the concept is not at all new and is emulated in many forms.

Renolds is trying for Deadpool. He actually described it as 'the worst relationship' ever (paraphrase), cause it keeps getting put off. He's a huge fan of the comics, he'll come through

I turned it off after the first 10 minutes..... the last movie I did that to was Batman and robin,.. till now I have no idea how either one ends. I am all the better for it.

Judging it as a stand-alone movie and not an adaptation (which would be unfair, as the comic should not have any bearing toward's this movie's worth), this movie was a wreck. Now the original source material might be great. And I definitely saw glimmerings of that, but nitpicking on details will not change the fact that the FILM just looks like a supernatural MIB. Which is not to say that MIB is original, but MIB used all these tropes more effectively and more enjoyably.

Men in Black and RIPD were both comic books before they were movies. men in black was published by Malibu comics which was bought by marvel. RIPD was published by Dark Horse

Well, that's great. I knew this movie was like MiB with supernatural stuff, but every time I saw the trailer I was actually really interested in seeing the movie. So even though I knew of the similarity to MiB, I was still willing to see it because even if it is a rip off, it can still be great. I still want to see it though. Maybe when it's on Netflix. I don't know. Thanks for the review Jeremy.

Kevin Bacon not only played a villain here (we knew that before he ever pulled the trigger) but a very hokey one as well.

I'm that you feel that way i know alot of people do but I'm one of the few that likes this movie and if that's true that this is like men in black then so is the comic its based on.

No, it is based on a comic book just like MIB(i should do look that up but i know marvel owned a MIB comic book for a while) but the R.I.P.D. comic came out not too long ago.

I enjoyed it. Weren't the MIB and RIPD both based off comics? So, rip-off seems harsh.
