I got turned on to the band by their tune Soul Experience. I thought the psychedelia was mainly the guitar playing. Great music from that era, never to be duplicated in my life!

I played all of my Iron Butterfly albums this weekend, including the phenomenal live album. Such a great band, definitely far from a one hit wonder.

What about the last two albums "Sun and Steel" and "Scorching Beauty" from 1975. I was disappointed Doug Ingle wasn't involved in those last 2 slbums. Those were intended to be Erik Braun solo records anyway.

Erik quit in December '69, by which time his replacements had been rehearsing with the band for about three months. He formed Flintwhistle with fellow IB alum Darryl DeLoach, and produced a handful of fine early '70's demos.

Thank for the nice Doug Ingle Tribute. The outside photos were taken around Central Park New York. Doug’s Dad (Lloyd Ingle) was a Church Organist and an accountant. Doug was just under a year old when the family moved from Nebraska to Evergreen Colorado where Doug’s father Lloyd Ingle played the Church Organ there in Evergreen Colorado and the little old white painted Church is still there to this very day. Doug was eleven yrs old when the family then moved to San Diego California where his father then played the Church Organ at a Church in La Mesa. Doug’s father professionally was an accountant as he did graduate from Drake University in Iowa earning two degrees being Music and accounting. Doug’s father Lloyd Ingle was born and raised in Iowa.

I got turned on to Iron Butterfly in early 1968. They were a great band, and I was sorry when Erik Brann left. When I bought Metamorphosis in 1970, I said, "Who the heck is Mike Pinera and Larry Reinhardt?" Metamorphosis turned out to be my favorite Iron Butterfly album. With Doug's passing, I believe that Mike Pinera, (a fabulous guitarist) is the only surviving member of that era, although I hear that Mike has been quite ill. RIP, Doug and all the original members who have left us.

Metamorphosis also shares a special place in my appreciation of Iron Butterfly. Those snarling Gibsons, the songwriting, the early recorded use of talk box effects on Butterfly Bleu...

I love that great find concert program. Nice score. "The" Iron Butterfly and all of their off-shoot bands, Captain Beyong. Mike Pinera with Thee Image and New Cacrus band. But it was their earliest LP's were so haunting vocals and heavy organ sound Just a psychedelic morphing into early heavy metal. Thanks for the news. RIP Doug Ingle.

Thanks for showing the book--I had never seen the insides. Was very saddened by Doug's passing. Iron Butterfly was my first concert in 1969. They announced from the stage that they were recording it for a live album, and a few months later Iron Butterfly Live came out.

Am I the only one who eventually liked and appreciated the "Scorching Beauty" LP after a few plays? I was a fan of Erik Braun also! Still need to find "Sun And Steel" again... My fave Iron Butterfly LP would be "Heavy" but I like them all!

Cool find Derek. When you first put your hand on it, I thought it looked a little small for an album, and wondered if it was a 10" release! I'd of probably grabbed it if I'd stumbled across it. They certainly left a legacy behind them. R.I.P. Doug.🦋

Aloha Derek I still have my copy of the hardback program, but, not as nice as yours. My classmate went to see Iron Butterfly in 1968- 1969 here in Honolulu Hawaii with his older brother, when we were in the 7th grade, my friend said Iron Butterfly only played two songs it was about one & a half hour concert. Lol... My personal favorite record album is Iron Butterfly Heavy 🦋. I recall going to a Swapmeet here in Honolulu, & buying a framed Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida gold record album which was in a shipping box address to Lee Dorman he was living or had an office at Century Center here in Honolulu. I no longer have it gave it to a friend who was in remission from leukemia at that time. Anyway thanks for jogging my memory. Thanks again for another great video. Saw them twice but never with Doug. Lee and Ron were there though. RIP The Band :( I saw that book somewhere once but do not remember where. There is still some form of the band with a concert scheduled in California this summer. Heavy and Ball both GREAT ! I like the two from 1975 with Eric fronting the band too. Metamorphosis is cool. Inagaddadivida is ok but do not feel the need to play that one too much.
