Wow! Legendary record producer and punk rock luminary, Steve Albini, passed away today from an apparent heart attack. He was only 61 years old. Steve Albini is probably best known for producing albums for Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Superchunk, The Jesus Lizard, and many more. He was also an influential artist who played in the bands Big Black, R$peman, and Shellac. His impact on 80s and 90s music is immeasurable. He was a legend.
R.I.P. Steve.
Steve also worked with The Breeders, Cheap Trick, The Stooges, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Helmet, Guided By Voices, Silkworm, Tad, The Wedding Present, and countless others.

My favorite Steve Albini records are the ones he made with Silkworm, and Japanese post rock legends Mono. RIP to a music legend.

I met Steve once because of poker, as we had a common friend. He was nice to me that night and his career as a musician and recording engineer stands for itself.

Cool. I saw him once doing live sound for Jesus Lizard and considered approaching him. He was a dick back then, and I was kind of intimidated. I didn’t try to talk to him.

That was a great rundown of records. He’d work with a lot of unknowns/local bands too, as long as they could swing his modest fee. What a loss. And yeah, too young.

I remember seeing him in a band called Flour a couple of times. I believe it would've been sometime between '89 - '91. I missed seeing R-Man, but funny story: my friends who saw them had to go though some protesters (due to the band name) on the way into the club and a few years later one of those friends ended up meeting & marrying a woman who turned out to be the organizer of the protest.

Found Big Black's Songs about Fucking when I was middle school in 2004/2005, later on got into Shellac, Jesus Lizard ect. Cool "engineer" but i disagree with his view on fashion, but do I agree that sans inflation a homemade sandwich is vastly superior to a Big Mac.

@@Thedarkstuff So a guy i knew who was a freshman in highschool got a copy of songs about fucking from his 1980s gen x punk dad. I actually would find songs off myspace by fans who made "fake" big black music pages. Now high school was when I thought the headache EP cover was cool as fuck and would make me look smart and edgy. Glad i'm 31 and out grew all that stuff. lol now i just listen to dj sabrina the teenage dj, charlie xcx and dance music. Steve would not agree.

@@Thedarkstuff Steve Albini certainly mixed politics and music, he was a very vocal muzzle supporter, guilt-tripped his audience about not bowing down to authoritarian lies from Fauci and the government. Do you believe the government has your best interests at heart?
