I was resident DJ at the Rum Runner in Birmingham from 1974-81. One night a guy came in to promote his latest single, he called himself 'Moon Williams'. He told me that he was Russell of R & J Stone and that Joanne had recently died, I could tell that he was still distraught and not over her death. I always think of him and Joanne whenever I hear this record. I wish him well and hope that he managed to get his career back on track. DJ Paul Anthony

Just travelled in the car on a long journey home and put some old tapes on. This track was on it. Wow, one you don't hear on the radio very much and what a pity; a fantastic song. Thanks for posting. I recall on TOTP there was one performance where Russell sang the first verse and Joanna slowly walked on behind him in time for her to sing the second verse. Didn't realise she had passed away. RIP.

A beautiful song and performance. It's one of those where you wonder if they'll get the high notes - and then they do [it]! What a pair of great vocalists. That [early '76] was a magical time period for me - never to be repeated unfortunately. I could do without Steve Wright's 'downbeat' comments, but each to his own...

R&J Stone were the English/American husband and wife duo, Russell Oliver Stone and Joanne Stone.[1] The pair were originally members of James Last's British Choir for a number of years. They had a hit single in the mid 1970s with their self penned song "We Do It".[2][3] The track was produced by Phil Swern. Some time after their hit, Russell Stone decided that he did not want to remain as a singer, and preferred to concentrate on producing and writing for his wife.[1] Their second album did not do well and a third album, although recorded, was never released. Joanne Stone died of a brain tumour in 1979.[4] Russell Stone later went to Munich to work with the Icelander Thorir Baldursson. Stone is a recovered alcoholic and has released three solo albums, Love Aspects (2013), Groove Aspects (2014) and Devotional Aspects (2016), after spending years out of the music industry.[1]

It must have torn the guys heart out to lose his soul mate at such a young age. Apparently all flower shops for a twenty mile radius were cleared of stock on the day of her funeral. It shows how many hearts were touched by the love they generated. It's sad that Steve Wright felt it necessary to give such a derisory comment to introduce the video, mind you, it's better to be simply thought of as an imbecile than as in his case to open his mouth and confirm the fact.
