Bollywood showman Raj Kapoor had said this when he had tears in his eyes and the body of the great singer of the film industry Mukesh in front of him. Who can forget that ill-fated day of August 1976, when singer Mukesh, known as the 'God of Painful Songs', died in America.
When his mortal remains were brought to India, big film personalities like Dilip Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Devanand, Lata Mangeshkar were present at the Mumbai airport.
Raj Kapoor started crying as soon as he saw Mukesh's dead body. He could be handled with great difficulty. Raj Kapoor sahib used to say, 'If I am body then Mukesh is my soul'. When the soul leaves us, the body becomes lifeless. Raj Kapoor also faced a similar situation at that time.
Raj Kapoor said in an interview, “I loved Mukesh not only because he was my 'soul', my voice, but also because he was the shoulder on which I used to cry. Mukeshchand was the most sociable person I knew. He had no bad words for anyone in his mind. He was patient and a good listener. And, no one had anything negative to say about Mukesh.
Mukesh recorded the last song for Raj Kapoor in July 1976, just before his America tour, for the film 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram'.

His full name is Mukesh Chandra Mathur, which till date is sufficient for everyone as Mukesh. But see the flourishing of talent, Mukesh, who had a soft heart for sad songs, sang all types of songs and sang them well. This happened because his mentor actor Moti Lal, who brought him into the film world, advised him to choose his own style. Only those who can sing sing.
Raj Kapoor's film 'Awara' released in the year 1951 proved to be a milestone for Mukesh's career. The song "Awara Hoon" from this film became one of the most popular songs in the world. This song crossed the borders of the country and created a new record. There are 15 countries that have translated "Awara Hoon" into their languages, including Russia, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Greece. No other singer's songs got such craze.
Friends, playback singer Mukesh sang about 900 songs for films in his 35 years of career. In this, most of the songs were filmed on Raj Kapoor and Manoj Kumar. Mukesh has worked with Anil Biswas, Husnlal Bhagatram, Khem Chandra Prakash, Roshan, Madan Mohan, Jaidev, C Ramchandra, Sardar Malik, Chitragupta, Sachin Dev Burman, Naushad, Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Khayyam, Ravi, Usha Khanna, Rahul Sung songs on the tunes of Dev Burman, Salil Choudhary, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan and Ravindra Jain.
This shows how Mukesh was loved by all the musicians.
Mukesh ji received his first Filmfare Award for the song "Sab Kuchh Sikha Humne" from Raj Kapoor's film "Anari". This song was written by Shailendra. After that, Har Dil Aziz playback singer Mukesh was honored with the Filmfare Award for the song 'Sabse bada nadan wahi hai' from the film 'Pehchaan' (1970) and the song 'Jai Bolo Beimaan Ki' from the film 'Beimaan' (1972). . Both these songs were written by Verma Malik .Shankar Jaikishan was the composer of all these three songs. Along with this, he also received the Filmfare Award for the song "Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Khayal Aata Hai" from the film "Kabhi Kabhi" composed by Khayyam. The lyrics were penned by Sahir Ludhianvi. Mukesh was awarded the National Film Award for the song "Kani Baar Yun Hi Dekha Hai" by composer Salil Chowdhary and lyricist Yogesh for the film "Rajnigandha".
