• In 1835, Lord Macaulay was appointed as Chairman of the First Law Commission. Under the stewardship of its chairman, Thomas Babington Macaulay, the Indian Penal Code was drafted, enacted and brought into force by 1862. • NITI AAYOG - A NON - CONSTITUTIONAL BODY. It is an executive and Non-Statutory body. • The National Commission for Women was set up as statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 • Article 44 says, “The State shall endeavor to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India.” • The first Law Commission in India was formed in 1955 with its chairman being the then Attorney-General of India, M. C. Setalvad. The Law Commission of India is a non-statutory body, constituted by the Government of India from time to time
