This genius does more with one chord than most bands do with 10. He makes it seem easy, but doing a lot with a little is one of the hardest things in any art form.

This is the most awesome album by R. L. Burnside in my opinion. The atmosphere of a juke joint, raw power, and an in your face sound. Love it! If I had to go to a remote island and only pick one album to take with me, I'd pick this one. Thank you, Fat Possum Records, for giving us this jewel!!

Took way too long for the world to know the amazing talent of Mr. Burnside. Been listening and loving, and learning since the early 80's. Thanks to the late night weekend DJ at WKSU back in the day. Jeff Esworthy was a senior at my school when I was a freshman. His musical interests were eclectic, to say the least. He played a sitar at the senior talent show and won! ;O A few years later I was glad to hear a familiar voice on the radio. I started taping those shows on cassettes to learn how to play guitar, and because I absolutely Loved the music! Still Love it just as much!!! Won't stop playing until I can't. BTW the story that leads into 'He Ain't Your Daddy' has me laughing no matter how many times I hear it. That's my go to on any bad day. ;D

I remember I had seen RL play live at least five, seven, maybe getting up to 10 times already. And I asked Kenny Brown, how they went about picking the songs for the setlist. And he was like, "what set list? It's the same damn thing every time!" This album is EXACTLY what I remember it was like, if you were there for one of his live performances in this era. The RL solo songs were a cigarette and beer break for Kenny, and lord knows what Cedric did during the breaks, he'd disappear backstage, probably looking for ladies to chat up.
