फ़िल्म की कहानी बहुत ही सीधी सादी है। बोर कर देगी। कहानी यह है कि अमिताभ एक नये व युवा सांसद (माधवन) के साथ कार से कहीं जा रहे थे और कोहरे में रास्ता भूल गये । एक किसान को सड़क पर देख कर उन्होंने कार रोकी और शीशा नीचे कर के पूछा, “महोदय, आप बता सकते हैं कि मैं कहाँ हूँ ?” “जी, श्रीमान्”, किसान ने आदर के साथ कहा, “आप अपनी कार में हैं ।” अमिताभ कार से उतरे, उन्होंने अपना टोप उतार कर किसान का अभिवादन किया, उससे हाथ मिलाया और कार में बैठ कर आगे चल पड़े । उन्होंने युवा सांसद माधवन को समझाया, “इस किसान में अच्छा सांसद बनने के गुण हैं । संसद में हमारा जवाब बिल्कुल ऐसा ही होना चाहिये -पूरी तरह सही, पूरी तरह सच; और ऐसा कि जिससे सवाल पूछनेवाले की जानकारी ज़रा भी न बढ़ सके, जस की तस बनी रहे ।” और उसके बाद जब एक पार्टी में एक महिला अमिताभ के पास आयी; और अमिताभ को घूरते हुये तिरस्कारपूर्ण स्वर में उसने कहा, “महोदय, आप नशे में धुत्त हैं !” तो अमिताभ ने मुस्करा कर कहा, “महोदया, आप बहुत बदसूरत हैं ।” “तो ...? ? !” महिला गरजी । “जी, मैं तो सुबह तक ठीक हो जाऊँगा,” अमिताभ ने स्पष्ट किया । तभी अमिताभ ने देखा कि दो शख़्स शिकार पर गये थे । अचानक एक पुलिस वाला प्रकट हुआ और उनसे अपने लाइसेंस दिखाने को कहा ।लाइसेंस माँगते ही उनमें से एक आदमी तेज़ी से भागा ! पुलिस वाले ने दौड़ कर उसका पीछा किया और काफ़ी दूर जा कर उसे पकड़ लिया । उस आदमी ने तुरंत अपनी जेब से लाइसेंस निकाला और पुलिस वाले को दिखा दिया ।“जब तुम्हारे पास लाइसेंस था तो तुम भागे क्यों, भले आदमी ?” पुलिस वाले ने हाँफ़ते हुये पूछा । “मेरे दोस्त के पास नहीं था,” भले आदमी ने भी हाँफ़ते हुये सफ़ाई दी । बस ! इसमें समझने को क्या है?
