It's not really a restriction fully open as the Cat is just upstream of it and all the flow comes through and is split at the valve. It won't really affect back pressure as the Cat also (mostly)controls that. It's there mostly for noise emissions but yep, a great idea to remove and code it out or use one of the several dongles on the market which you fit across the servo to disable it without throwing a code from the ECU. The alternative is to remove the actuator cables and leave the valve in place in the fully open position. Next to no difference in performance.

Really best to keep all stock parts when modding a BMW. They normally have great resale value but much much easier to sell if return to stock (or at least supply new buyer with original parts). Spend the $50 and you’ll get it back when you sell the bike. Swap takes only 10 minutes and makes bike easier to sell without unwanted mod

Does it equate to a 15% restriction, or does it simply divert the flow slightly 🤔

Well, technically it would only divert the airflow but my point is it restricts the free flow of the exhaust.

Hello Mark, greetings from Paris. Thanks for the great vids. I have 2 questions need ur feedback based on ur experience.. 1) is an R Nine T comfortable on long rides (+500km per day)? 2) Is it DIY friendly for all repairs (mechanical/electrical) ? Do you get OEM spares, diagnostic tools easily in open market or u r stuck with BMW only. Appreciate your inputs please.🙏

Hi, mate. To answer your questions, I have done some 500km rides and it is very comfortable. And yes, it is very easy to work on. What if you just remove the cable from the valve module? It will be opened all the time, so You don't need to retrofit anything If you want to stay in stock - you just put the cable in. Am I Right?

@@thatrninetguy the function of the exup valve is to give more torque at lower rpms. removing it does not give more sound, it only reduces the acceleration. So its very stupid to remove that valve.... but feel free to try it. And please test you bike while accelerating against a valve fitted model of the same mark and type.
@thatrninetguy

@@jeroenkragten8342 I understand your point. I didn't notice any difference in torque at low rpm to be honest. With me, I'm after performance on track at higher revs. With a catless exhaust, removing any restrictions was the goal.
@paulgarner8914
@paulgarner8914 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeroenkragten8342 This is not an Exup valve. Those were fitted to some Yamahas R1/Fazer 1000 and sit directly in line of the headers and so resticts the flow at lower revs and gives more torque. This is a flapper valve which is completly different in purpose. It is there to get the bike through noise regulations, it is closed upto the point were they take the reading and then opens just past it and lets the gases flow unristicted. Other manufactures use the same trick only in various places in the system.

At low RPMs, the valve partially closes to create backpressure. This aids in scavenging and prevents reversion, which improves low-end torque.

I have a 2020 R Nine T and live in a busy city and my engine temp goes up to 275 degrees Fahrenheit after about 45 minutes of city riding. Removed mine and lost no torque,according to the Dyno. Gained some and HP with de-cat and fuel commander. Not much,but much nicer engine response,and above all,the piece of mind from richening the fuel/air ratio throughout the rev range. A must in my opinion, to run cooler. Essential for any modern motorcycle, as set horribly lean for emissions.

@@marcsterling No, I didn't. But I have a 2015 Euro 3 bike and the ECU is different than the later models The internet is FULL of info on all sorts of fuel modules and other solutions like flash tuning etc that you "need". But I thought I'd have the bike dyno'd to see what the numbers were before committing to solution. Results were that the ECU did a tremendous job relearning after all of the mods and the AFR numbers were spot on. I uploaded a video of my bike being dyno'd too if you want to see that. If you have a later model bike with a different ECU to mine you're best off getting it dyno'd to check the numbers in case you're running lean.
