We lived in a crime ridden apartment complex. One day, a guy accused us of crashing into a brand new car. We had damage on our truck, but explained it'd been there awhile, after my husband hit a barrier in a gas station parking lot, NOT caused by hitting a car & we'd been inside all day. After showing the cop the rust & yellow paint from the barrier, he relented & told us the guy blamed us, guessing he was trying to get his damage fixed. The funny part? They found out HIS car was involved in a hit & run. I guess blaming us would get his fixed & throw suspicion off him. The joke was on him when they came back to arrest him a few days later.

You'd think just reporting the District Manager to the Labour Board would be revenge enough since what he did was essentially wage theft.
@yumri42 жыл бұрын
Depending on the income of the company the district manager legally should have looked at how much was owed then adjusted cost to the store according to pay what is owed. If you don't then it is the same as having a creditor you owe just with a different interest rate. That's why your pay day and pay period is spelled out in your employee agreement or employee contract. Not paying is not a legal option. For how the store was run i am surprised the manager was not put taken to task and having everything they did looked over to see what is where and when is the most money being made after cost of the services and products used is taken out. After a few weeks it will be apparent where more staff is needed and when less is needed going by the numbers. Never changing is bad more so when the revenue of the store is going down. The part i am wondering about is did the next store owner do better?

I've posted about this before but noise wars make me smile. Had an older divorced dad and two teenage daughters move in above us (a house converted into 3 apartments). I don't know if they were skipping, home schooled or drop outs. Anyway about a month after they moved in they broke out a Walmart home stereo with the worst sound quality ever. They'd play it so loud you could hear the speakers breaking up through the floor. One afternoon I'd had enough so I dropped a Slayer CD into my deck, picked one song and set it to repeat and turned the 250watt stereo I owned to 3/4 volume and then went to run errands, visit friends at 7-11, I was gone a couple hours. Got home turned off Slayer to dead silence. They never played their crap loud again.

Man that speaker story reminds me of what my dad did back in the early 2000's. Mom and dad were huge metalheads, she worked with the Government and dad was in Construction, we got an apartment around 05 when I was 8, and the neighbors were a nuisance even being next-door their stomping from lack of picking up feet and talking almost in a yelling manner, playing the TV and Radio loud (it was rap, my dad isn't a fan), he'd asked if they'd keep it down, they said sure, but in reality he increased the amount of sounds, and even started being loud af after hours, so finally he'd had enough after 2 months, & dad updated his system from a boombox to a stereo with speakers taller than me, 4 speaker boxes the 2 largest having around 8 speakers and the 2 smallest around 5 with a base the size of the radio itself, all stereo parts were between 4-6 feet in height, large beautiful system, got a lucky find, the neighbors on the other hand weren't pleased when their pictures and items on shelves started vibrating off the wall, a week goes by and because my dad played in the hours allowed we didn't face trouble, but the neighbor stopped being a douche. I should note this was around when "Insight" used to still be a thing in our area before it became known as "Spectrum" and the only music my mom played was thru a tv in her room via music channels and I used my portable CD player or cassette player, dad's boombox was just used at work and brought home at the end of his shift, he'd decided to use it until getting the huge stereo. Man, I miss that stereo, I can't lie nor deny, never seen one like it since. 🤣

In the last story, I'm a little surprised by the manager's salary too. It seems like his bosses were pressuring him to wring more money out of his stores just so that _they_ would make more money. They were probably dangling a fat bonus over his head too, while setting him up to eventually fail by pushing him to meet impossible metrics. Basically the same con he was running on OP. Yet when it all goes to hell, it's his ass that ends up on the line. Goes to show how much those at the top have been squeezing out of all of us and making us turn on each other just to survive.

Wow, that last story reminded me of a time we were on the other end of someone abandoning a restaurant. I worked at a little retail store which sold beauty products and novelty items, and there was a burger joint next door. One day, we started smelling something really awful, and we thought there must be a dead rat somewhere. We called corporate, and they sent pest control, but they couldn't find anything in our walls, ceiling, or basement. A couple days passed, and the smell was unbearable. We were burning candles, incense, and essential oils nonstop, and it did nothing. Our district manager did some investigating, and it turns out the burger place next door had closed down, and not cleaned anything. They left meat out, burgers on the grill, the whole nine. Then our company spent days arguing with the owners of the burger place, trying to get them to pay for cleanup. Meanwhile, we were still working in the store, having to explain to every customer what "that smell" was. And our company finally did bring in a professional cleaning crew to deal with it. The cleaning crew brought over coffee grounds and chafing dish heaters which actually cut through the smell. They told us that's what they use to help with the smell of *cadavers.* It all got cleaned up, and we went back to business as usual. A bit anti-climactic, but when you leave rotting meat out, you're not just hurting your bosses.

When I lived in my second apartment, I had neighbors who played their stereo on blast til early hours of the morning. I am a teacher, go to bed around 11, get up at 6. I asked nicely several times for them to turn down the music after 10. Called the police a couple times, which only resulted in the music down for an hour or so, after they showed up 3 hours later. Even reported to the landlord, who tried to help, but they couldn't sit outside and monitor them every night. (Definitely in the time before widespread security aps). So one day, after they had been partying late and it was the weekend, I took my speakers, set them against the wall we shared, set Hanson's MMMbop on repeat, turned the volume way up, then left to do errands for several hours. They met me on the walk when I came home and said...if you don't do it again, we won't. They lived up to their word.

Now I have nothing against them...except for every major holiday, they'd all get together (3 spanish families on my apartment floor) inviting friends and party till like 3am -5am, most times getting drunk enough to have fights and the police would get called. This stopped like a few years back. But nowadays, we contend with the fact the kids run around and play in the hallway (most times loudly and kicking balls)...TOTALLY UNSUPERVISED! This is dangerous cuz I live on the top floor of my building, so these kids could be hurt in any way and with no one watching them, god only knows what could happen to them.

Yeah, little known fact is that the profit margins in the restaurant industry are razor thin - they make a lot of money, but then the cost of wages for all the employees, the food and other expenses, taxes and complying with all the government regulations, and there's only so much money left for the person running everything. This even extends to the top - the people at the top of McDonald's are millionaires, not billionaires, and aren't even close. It just isn't a super profitable industry.

I also used to work as an assistant manager at Wendy's, but in the late 90's and I'm not surprised at all how this guy was treated. My "salary" back then was a whopping 18K a year for being responsible for a crew of 7 or 8 people. Every time I asked about more money I was told I was lucky I was a "manager" and that the store salary cap had been met, so no matter what I did in that store I'd never make more money. My GM was a great lady, but the franchise itself was pretty cheap.

Yeah they sure loved being able to throw the "your lucky we pay you at all" line and it's many variants at people back then didn't they, now look at where that attitude has got them.

When I was at University, early 2000's, the person in the next dormitory block played ONE song on full blast on repeat from around 6pm to 6am (I think they left it on when they went out). The song was "Kiss Kiss" by Tarkan (later used by Shakira in one of her songs). Everyone in my dormitory (around 40 students) and his dormitory (Men where on the first two floors and the women were on the upper two) were p!ssed and complained to the University every time it was on. Half way through the year he was made to leave the dormitory.

I still do not understand how stupid these people can be to mess with complete strangers. There is a reason why our parents told us to not talk with strangers or accept any handouts from them. That they can be dangerous. So what was this Karen in the first story going to do if, -IF- (not that he would, but if) the guy walked back to his vehicle and actually brought back a tire iron to vent his rage? What if he broke in before the cops showed up? You know, I still remember listening to rSlash tell the story of that homeowner who shot and killed the leaders of his HOA for taking his home. Fucking with the wrong people happens and is more probable when you know nothing about them.

The last story (Wendy's)....smh You HAVE TO KNOW the employment laws for your state! You can't complain about the rules when you never bothered to read the rules. Stop waiting for someone to tell you. Learn the policies and/or law and then make your own decisions.

I work in a deli, we also have to deal with only 1/3 of the normal staff for closing, The GM and the DM constantly tell us to work harder and stop slacking and getting over time. So we started documenting everything we do and leave exactly when scheduled every night. They stopped threatening to write us up after two weeks. No, they never followed through with those threats either.

Had an accident where the lady tried to blame me. I was turning into school one morning (left turn), then boom I was hit by a lady turning left out of the school. She tried to blame me saying she couldn't see me. Well much to my luck our school had multiple cameras watching the parking lot and football field, they caught the whole thing. My lights were on, turn signal on well before the turn, and my favorite I had been stopped infront of her for 3 and a half seconds. Luckily I didn't have to go to the hearing, but from what I've heard she had to pay a fine, get marks on her license, 2 tickets, and she had lost her insurance due to multiple at fault accidents.
@kstormgeistgem4612 жыл бұрын
so you weren't her first time of pulling that schtick. it usually takes a lot more than one incident for most insurances to be willing to lose that money coming in.

BUY. A. DASHCAM! And get a good one. $150 will get you a good camera, with two units, one you can mount in the front windshield and one which you can mount in the back windshield. $150 might seem like too much when you see some dashcams for $30 or so, but this is something upon which your freedom could depend! Can you imagine if the cops had believed that girl's story in the first section of this video?! That guy might be in jail for assault! $150 is WELL worth it!

Ya the first story happened to me. Guy was in a truck and then went in reverse just before Christmas last year in 2021. All the damage to my car was a hole in the bumper and a torn lisence plate. Didn't call the cops or anything. I didn't even report it to insurance because it was the holiday and finding an open shop would be basically impossible for a quote. The damage was superficial so I just let it slide and got a new plate and frame and it covers the hole anyhow. Concider it a christmas gift to the guy lol
@Zapporah852 жыл бұрын
Please note guys: Cops are crooked, and they might not always do the right thing, so dash cams ARE important. However, backing up into someone leaves evidence and a good investigator will know the difference. My dad dealt with this once as an officer, before civilian dash cams were a thing, and they were able to prove that the car did in fact back into the other one. Get a dash cam, but hope is not lost if you don't.

had someone start backing toward me from a red light and I honked and pointed at my dashcam, and the person literally stopped and then shot forward and ran the red light, like running away is going to get rid of the fact that my dashcam had their license plate clearly in the video it had been recording.
