The 1st story reminds me of something that happened where I live. The town decided to re-pave main street. Most of the businesses were fine but one bar was below street level (only about 3ft). The owner warned that they needed to set the street with small lip to guide rain water away from the sidewalk. They didn't listen & the 1st good rain the bar flooded. So instead of making a small lip, the town had to pay for a new 25ft long sidewalk to rise above the road.

As someone who creates digital scans of textbooks (legally) for students with disabilities you’d be shocked by how lengthy and involved the process is. So many people think you can just scan a book and it’ll come out perfect but I can spend up to several weeks on a text book making sure the underlining text is actually correct and that the software hasn’t added punctuation or changed words. There’s a reason they pay me to do my job and not just let the computer do it on its own

Most backlist books and small publishers' books are available with print on command by companies like Lightning Source using a digital copy of the book. It's cheaper than publishing a bunch of books then warehousing them for eventual sales, and shipping is really fast.

First story: It was a cool revenge and all, but OP really should've listened to the advice and taken advantage of Tree Law. It can never be understated how worthwhile it is to punish illegal deforestation. Second story: I think this story has already been covered before. Third story: Lesson learned - if you treasure your job, don't go behind your manager/boss to make your own decisions that could put a huge dent in the company's economy, operations or reputation. Fourth story: His business professionalism was as non-existent as the legitimacy of the books he was selling. This is why you should always confirm that what you're buying on larger online trading hubs has been authorized to be sold as such by the original creator.

Tree law doesn't automatically mean huge amount of money, since it depends on how easily the trees can be replaced. Since he lives near a forest, I would assume it's pretty easily for new trees to grow.
