Honestly, for OP, the proposal was just the straw that broke the camel's back. It was revenge not only for that, but for every single time his brother ruined his moments. And Lucy totally deserved it too. Let's not forget she announced her own pregnancy during OP's sister's baby shower. As for the kid, it's better not to be raised by such a horrible father.

Michelle and her father were doing their father daughter dance, there was no one else on the dance floor at that time, and the spot light was on them. There was a videographer recording it. So what todd did was he and lucy went onto the dance floor, between the father daughter duo and the camera man, in the spotlight so everyone's focus was now on them, and proposed. lucy was cool with this! She walked with him to the dance floor, in front of the videographer and spotlight KNOWING his plans. She's not innocent.

Imagine telling a rape victim (or a victim of some other crime) "Sorry, we can't put your offender in prison.. their kid is innocent!". todd is not in prison, he can still see his kid, he'll just likely have to pay child support now. Maybe now he'll realize there are consequences for his misdeeds.

Because they usually get away with it. This guy was foolish to hire a lawyer to fight over a deposit he wasn't entitled to keep. Even more foolish in not paying up after he lost the case. And finally it was foolish not realize the terms of his visa required he stay out of legal trouble.

I had a landlord try to keep a $250 deposit from me and uno reverse saying I owed them $500 extra after the deposit in damages (untrue). I argued with them and they refused. I sited every code they were breaking and gave them a final chance to fix it before I would take them to court. They sent it LOL

My landlord wanted to keep part of my deposit even though my room was spotless and all the common areas were clean and undamaged because “the room still smelled like cats” I had told her it was the other peoples cats that weren’t being properly cared for and causing a smell but since they were friends of her family… well, they were moving out about 15 days later so she was gonna keep it until they moved out and clean everything at once. I said that was fine, as long as she gave me an itemized list of what she had to do for my room specifically and only charged me for that. A few days after they had moved out I asked for that itemized bill… surprisingly got everything back! Guess she must have realized once they left… they were in fact the cause of her problem. Wench should have believed me, I would have taken good care of her house.

But the owners also lost all the money in lawyers taxation and realtor fees even with a failed purchase and they get no rent for all the months that place will now stand empty as they will keep asking way too much money for it. It may sit empty for 6 months or more. That's a lot of rent.

A landlord CANNOT keep your deposit for normal wear & tear. Most states require them to paint between each tenant. No sane judge would allow them to keep your money for painting, cleaning carpets, and patching holes. Young people: please do your research on such matters. Don't get swindled by more experienced people.

Lesson learned? Get EVERYTHING in writing. Why would you add value to a property & NOT get the deal in writing? Even the nicest landlords can become greedy. I've lived in a rental for 6yrs & have put tons of money into it. I've added walkways, a little pond, built a building & playhouse, replaced carpet, redid the kitchen, etc. Took it from a 3 to a 10. Don't expect your money back if you invest it in a rental, UNLESS you get it in writing.

For the last story, OP family definitely lost more than the landlords. They lost the entire house they wanted to live in, the lost the labor money, they lost their time. They probably got a shit ton of stress because of the all situation and they had to find a new place to live on top of that. Sure, the landlords lost more dollars but they just had to pay whatever they should have payee in the first place to add a fancy fence more or less. And sure, they lost the potential buyer for the expensive new price but that's just virtual money until they actually get payed so it's not so much of a loss and the house just got back on it's original price.

I remember a story similar to that, a lady was renting a place and she'd made a bunch of improvements to the backyard. Planters, raised beds, a nice looking shed and so on. Landlord said they were looking to sell and the lady needed to move out, so she did, took all her improvements with her, since she'd built them all to be temporary. Landlord is pissed because she included pictures of all the improvements and now she couldn't sell the house. xD

Last story: This is why you *always* demand everything in writing!! Never trust bosses or landlords to keep their word. Even if yours is an exception, always demand things in writing in case you come under new management who tries to break past agreements. Even if its just confirming over text. Story 1, The brother knew that people were onto him, OP promised consequences if he went through with it. Please. The fact that Lucy didn't try to stop him from hijacking OP's wedding and also hijacked someone's baby shower. It shows that her character is no better than OP's brother and parents. The only innocent victim is the unborn baby. And, actually, OP may have done that baby a favor since it won't have to grow up with two entitled, self-centered parents. Maybe that baby will have a better shot and be a bit better adjusted. Edit: as for breaking up a family, sometimes, that's for the best. I think I turned out much better because my family was broken up. If my parents were together, I would probably have anger issues, violent tendencies, or might have already committed suicide. Their family would not be a good family for that baby to grow up in. They would either have to grow up quickly and take responsibility since their parents won't or they will turn out just as bad as the parents, if not worse. Like I said, I think OP gave that child a better chance at life.
