R&R Sectional Garage Door Hit By A Car...

R&R stands for, Remove and Replace. Here is a situation were the garage door was struck by a moving vehicle and pushed off the track and into the garage. The springs are still hot and the door is literally hanging by the cables. I used ropes tied to the brackets on the top panel to keep the door secure. Then I bolted the sections together with some angle iron to prevent the sections from folding. Then I unwound 1 of the 2 torsion springs to take the pressure off. Keeping one spring hot, helped me manage the weight of the door. I removed the vertical tracks and managed to push the door forward and remount the verticals with long lag bolts. Now that the door was secure. I was able to remove it safely and install the new garage door with a new garage door opener. www.gsoverheads...

I would have put a 3 3/4 winder cone on the end of the shaft and unwind both springs at the same time. Then you are safely off to the side

The customer on this job ordered a new garage door & new door opener. The new door comes with new springs, tracks, hardware and panels. There is no additional cost for that. We give the customer exactly what they order. Using the old tracks and hardware on a new door is not the correct way to install a new garage door.

+Miguel If you attempt to reuse old stuff, you can run into all kinds of headaches which most customers would *not* be happy to pay for. If you use new equipment, then you know that everything is compatible. Not to mention, if you reuse old stuff, then a year later a bearing fails or spring breaks, you will also have a _very unhappy_ customer. The fact is door hardware is cheap compared to the labor, it's pretty much disposable, unless you're talking commercial grade stuff.
