Seal Garage Door Bottom From Gaps & Rodents

A common problem with many garage doors is sealing the bottom from gaps and spaces inviting rain water or rodents. In this video we will scribe a wood sectional garage door bottom panel to match the form of the ground. The process described will work for wood doors but not steel. In the closed position, a pencil line is drawn across the bottom of the door following the floor and the line is cut off to form a new bottom panel. Also, a bottom weatherstrip is added to ensure a nice tight fit. A coat of sealant or primer should be spread on the freshly cut wood. This process is normally done during initial installation of the garage door, but in our video the door was installed many years ago and we must attempt to scribe the door in it's present condition. www.gsoverheads...

Since u lowered the door about 3/4 inch, did u have to modify the locking bar at each end to set bar thru the rail to lock the door?

What about laying down a concrete layer to level out the gap so that it's straight and matches the door edge?

I just added a new seal on the bottom of my garage door this summer and that did not fix a gap I have. The left side is worst that the right. Is there a better seal out there that will fix my problem because I'm not going to cut off my door like this?

I use meta sheeting on inside of doors and rat traps inside garage and outside garage 😅

it would have been nice to see the gap that you left on the bottom of the door so I can see how much to leave outside the garage door - a zoom in would have helped

What an amazing job. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated and God bless. Could you offer some advice how to close a gap (on one side of a colour bond (Aluminum door). The floor is uneven and hence there is a gap on the right side of the aluminum door which is about 1/2 meter long. The leaves and water that come through are a pain. Robert

They make a Garage Door Threshold that goes on the bottom, i have also seen people use pipe insulation and just glue it to the area after cutting it down.

How about floor molding on outside and inside so it falls in place? You need waterproof/weatherproof steal wool and mini scrap nails, short enough not to puncture a tire, but strong enough to repeal rodents

It’s not that’s how you do it on wooden doors since this is universal but more better one wood doors.

That's why you NOTCH the ends of the bottom weather-stripping to clear the side trim pieces. I betcha didn't think of that eh chucklehead? The wider side goes OUT so the rain can run off AWAY from the door. Your saw cut along the bottom was wavy AF too. Keep practicing tho ;)
