Bravi tutti corni!!!! You guys sound great! What most audience members don't know is that, unlike most violin, piano or vocal soloists who do nothing but solo repertoire, these four folks are members of a very busy orchestra - for them to get time to travel to Moscow and play this difficult work on top of all the other things they have to do (check the Berlin Phil's schedule out some time!) is really a double miracle. Well done...

It's a pretty bloody high note.

That's a Yamaha triple horn. Model YHR-891, i believe.
@cmusicmanx10 жыл бұрын
Stefan's is actually a Yamaha triple horn, he's using the same one as in the video with Clevenger.

I think he used that same horn back in the 80s or 90s for this same piece, when Dale clevenger appeared as a guest.

Also watch Stefan's Strauss 1 with Moscow State pls... same orchestra, same conductor. The bad orchestra really affects Stefan and he doesn't sound as God-like as he has always been in these vids...

No Stefan's descant horn is a yamaha, not an alex for some reason
@xtjc11 жыл бұрын
yea I know lol, but look at his earlier video when he was like 30 years old or something, hardly any change in facial expression, played it like every other note.
@cshorn1411 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they all use Alex horns
@geldschijter11 жыл бұрын
Stefan isn't playing his Alex 103, I wonder what kind of horn he's playing here?
@NotSosigRamsey3 жыл бұрын
It's a Yamaha triple horn
@geldschijter3 жыл бұрын
@@NotSosigRamsey well 8 years later I finally got my answer lol. By now, I knew the answer already for quite a while but still, thank you!
@cshorn1410 жыл бұрын
Oh, well obviously he has several horns, but I know he usually plays on an Alex.

I think the orchestra's been too loud throughout the first 7 minutes. It's hard to find the top of the mountain when you've been forced to slog around in the extreme of the dynamic range.
@jeffreychan635711 жыл бұрын
I think it's really the orchestra's problem. I have no idea why Russian orchestras always rush and rush and rush when accompanying soloists (no offence). If you've ever watched his performance with Dale Clevenger on the 2nd horn and with BPO/Barenboim, you know it really isn't his problem. The orchestra has been forcing him all along so it's really difficut to hit the highest note after all these vigorous pacing lol

the concert master is deaf. And that is a yamaha triple, which is not relevant. Once you can play like that it could have been a whatever student model, it would sound as good
@xtjc11 жыл бұрын
wow...7:11, never seen Stefan's facial expression like that. He seemed to be trying really hard to support that high E. I guess age is starting to affect his full potential.
@Pavamingo4 жыл бұрын
Is there a video of your facial expression playing that piece in that quality on an international podium like that?
@jc19084 жыл бұрын
Michael Dahmen which part of my comment offended you?
@Pavamingo4 жыл бұрын
@@jc1908 You didn't offend me. I just don't think that we have the right to deliver such comments. After all: Stefan Dohr is a world class-player! And you imply that his strength, power, abilities are fading due to his age? There are no hints whatsoever for that, surely not in this video.
@xtjc4 жыл бұрын
Michael Dahmen the facial contortion is precisely a HINT. I didn’t say he performed poorly, he sounded awesome in this video. Every brass player’s playing is at the mercy of aging, though it may only be noticeable very gradually over a span of 20 to 30 years. Im ok if you’re a fan but dont you think you may be a bit delusional?
@Pavamingo4 жыл бұрын
@@xtjc well, I may seem delusional to you. Yes, I am a fan! And I am a performing artist. I don't know your background but I always react this way when I have the feeling that a comment is implying a lack of quality in a spectacular performance. And even if the performance was not as spectacular as you may expect from a man like Stefan Dohr we all owe him respect. But: If you didn't imply all this it's all good. Nevertheless, "I guess age is starting to affect his full potential" is toeing a line....

This is neither an alexander nor a yamaha.He is using a schmid double horn which he used in the recording with Dale Clevenger.

Golden romantic-horn-age is over , 50 years ago you could find easily much better interpretations then this ,. and really today 2022 (and near future) you hardly find any hornists of level like these...
