On the "yes hiccups" thing: I used to work with someone who had an allergy to magnets. This was because magnets could turn off the implant in her chest. The implant sent a constant signal to her brain of "You don't need to vomit". If it gets turned off, she needs surgery to turn it back on.

I don't think Loki ever got a rock pregnant. He got a giantess named Angrboda pregnant (or rather, a Jötunn. Translating the name as "giant" is a bit misleading because they don't neccessarily have to be big, they are basically just like the gods, but like part of a different socio-political group if you will) and he got impregnated by a horse. And he had two sons with his wife in Asgard. The one rock that is remotely relevant to his story is the one he got chained to when the gods where fed up with his shit for good (notably, chained to with the guts of his one son, which had been torn out of that sons torso by the other son who the gods turned into a feral wolf because they are the kind of unpleasant people that make the children suffer for the sins of their father. Above the rock sits a snake that is slowly dripping its venom into Lokis face and next to Loki stands his wife with a great bowl in which it catches the venom. Occasionally, the bowl runs full and the wife has to empty it, during which time the venom drips onto Lokis face, causing him to scream and writh in agony, which is how north mythology explains the existance of earth quakes).

My favorite short Sci Fi story was about a peace offering between humanity and an alien race. The reason we focus on the negative rather than the positive is millions of years of survival evolution. Positive things aren't likely to pose a threat, negative things could kill you. The problem comes from how far we've evolved. So the negative moment of a predator hunting us, has become some jerk behind a keyboard. Instinctively we respond the same way, so we need to train ourselves that these new negative "threats" aren't actually threats at all. One way I've been learning to cope with this is assigning a value to the negative, and then finding an equal positive and focussing on that. Like an internet troll, about a 2 or a 3 on the "ruin my day" scale. So I think back and remember that I woke up with my cute little fluff monster curled in my arms. That's at least a 5 on the "I love this moment" scale. And suddenly the negative doesn't seem so impactful. Thank you for coming to my ted talk lol

Ok so about that first one. A lot of people tend to forget that Hank Hill is or at least was at one point a Gamer. There’s an entire episode where he becomes addicted to a GTA style online video game called Pro-Pain that was initially created to mock him by some game designers who taught Alternative PE at Bobby’s School. I love that episode and it contains a line that I often quote when I’ve been gaming too much. “it Feels Good To Blink” So that in mind and because Bobby is well, Bobby, Hank would probably have at least a vague idea of what Genshin Impact is but likely would be hesitant to play it because of what happened with Pro-Pain.

I've been on a kick watching amusement park documentaries and they're 100% correct. Like, there are some park officials that are like, "We couldn't imagine this happening." Even though they lobbied for the state to allow them to do their own safety testing and forgo state testing. And while testing their new ride, the test rides they did with dummies caused the dummies to fly out of the ride. Or someone creating an entire amusement park without the use of math even once. Or the park officials are like, "We regularly test our ride. How could this happen?" Even though the week prior there are images of the ride not properly draining. Or there are instances of the safety measures not working and patrons have reported said safety failings. But park officials did nothing. Or there are instances of safety measures not being fixed for months because "there never has been a safety issue before. We do not need to worry about it." Or the park officials say, "We just fixed this yesterday. There should not have been an issue." And they fixed the problem with either flex seal or a product that was not made to withstand the kinds of pressure that the ride gives off.

the weird dream post followed by the greek vs Norse mythology post unfortunately reminded me of something that I will now force any further readers to endure: I once had a dream where christian god and Jesus got trashed at a party on earth and Jesus hooked up with Loki while drunk. the rest of the dream consisted of Jesus being informed by a wizard on a motorcycle that he hooked up with Loki and Jesus frantically trying to track Loki down to make sure he wasn't pregnant while Loki purposefully avoided him for shits and giggles and also because he most definitely was pregnant by Jesus and was planning some sort of christian/norse apocalypse using their inter religious blasphemy baby as some kind of catalyst to cause chaos on the mortal plane. Loki somehow got away in a sports car and Jesus ended up in a parking complex trying to get a veery hungover christian god to take the situation seriously. which. he. did. not. I am an atheist and I feel the need to apologize to several religions after that dream.

On the why the default is "yes hiccups" is because its a failure safe system. Hiccups were designed to reset our breathing muscles. Imagine this, you have a lapm that you HAVE to be able to turn on if needed, then you leave it on and have a switch to turn it off, The switch fails? Lamp turns on lamp fails? You were screwed anyways Is a way to reduce the amount of components that can faul, so yes the body is badly designed, BUT well designed to avoid failing..... sometimes.

So a salami is a mix of meat, fat and flavoring (spice and/or artificial) stuffed into animal intestines and then left to ferment or dry. The fermentation or drying step was traditionally often done by hanging it from the rafters in a room spesifically for drying or fermenting meat. So “go hang a salami” could potentially be a natural slang in some language though I have never heard of it my self.

I don’t want to dream anymore. My dreams get soo vivid and realistic that 10 years later something triggers that memory and I confuse that dream for an actual memory of something that happened. It’s the reason I had a mental breakdown in 2017. I remembered one dream every 15 minutes for a year and it only stopped when I moved out of that house. I wrote a book about it called the seventh vial by Shawn McIntire. Go check it out. I’m trying to get the paperback approved but Amazon are being jerks about the smallest mistakes that are too small to notice. Some words are purposely misspelled to get you to use your imagination. But Amazon doesn’t see my vision. They just see numbers and lots and lots of money. My original book transcript had dream spelled as draem to differentiate the difference between a regular dream and a prophetic draem. Much like how the main character in catcher in the rye had different names for each mood.

Yeah, so there's a reason Norse mythology is so weird. It's because the Catholics tried to destroy it and everything that we know in the modern age is just what we've been able to piece together from the broken fragments that they missed. There are some theories that Loki was never actually _in_ the original stories, and was the product of the Catholics trying to "alter" the stories to make them fit better with their beliefs.

I find it so hard to believe that people actually have cool dreams. I'll dream that I used the last bit of coffee and wake up with that memory. I won't even realize it was a dream until I open the cupboard and there's just enough coffee for one last cup. Recently I dreamed my landlord left a note on my door, some sort of form I had to fill out about my dog. I decided to deal with it later since I was headed to work at the time. Turns out, that just never happened. Literally happens to me all the time. Every day I realize something I thought happened must have just been a dream.

Norse Mythology is less "Loki got an Idea" and more "Oh no the consequence of our hubris, Loki fix it!" basically Odin or Thor make some bet or get inconvenienced somehow and then demand Loki fix their problem for example: Odin gets in an argument against the best architect ever betting that if he can build a great wall around Asgard in three days then architect can get his wife, the architect accepts and by the end of the first day the architect is more than halfway done Odin sees this and goes "Oh shit, Loki fix this!" Loki begrudgingly complies and solves the problem by tricking the architect into doubling down on the bet by stroking his ego shortening the time to 2 instead of 3 days and then while transformed seducing the architects work horse completely crippling the architects workflow, in the end not only did Odin get to keep his wife he also got a nearly completed wall and a super god horse birthed by Loki, Loki did not get thanked for his efforts. Some more stories of Loki's usefulness later Odin gets a prophecy that says Loki's future kids will bring ragnarok so he tries to prevent that by isolating/banishing the children preventively but of course him doing this is exactly why they cause ragnarok in the first place, anyway, in hearing about how his children were being treated Loki got understandably pissed and decided the best way to get back at the traitorous gods was to trick a blind god named Hod into shooting and killing everyone's beloved golden boy Balder, this landed Loki in eternal silence and slow acid drip jail a very cruel punishment that of course also contributed towards ragnarok.

GIF was recorded a few centuries ago as being pronounced "yiff" but there are a bunch of things from back then that haven't kept their pronunciations so there's no reason to honor those heathens by accepting "yiff" as the one true path. Just like how the British refuse to honor the scientist who discovered Aluminum. He wanted Alumnum at first which everyone universally hated and compromised to Aluminum (no IUM pronunciation AT ALL) and because the British thought it was a stupid name that flew in the face of all other naming conventions they essentially said Fuck it, it's Latin based now despite the namer's wishes (which as an American, they are right it is stupid that he wanted "numb" instead of "e-um" like everything else).

Quite simply: We are bothered by negative comments more because on a technical level, our brain is pretty well-designed (disregarding the hick-ups). We feel like failure is more important than success because it makes sense for us to think more about our failures compared to our successes because that's where we want to and have a chance to improve the outcome. The thing our brain does not account for is our constant availability to feedback in this modern era. More than ever, there's a chance to get negative feedback that has no productive use for us because it wasn't constructive or even fair or thought-out because someone was just having a bad day and decided to let off some steam by being a dick to random strangers on the internet. Our brain struggles to filter negative experiences for relevancy and as a result, it becomes difficult to disregard such things because they make you either feel insecure or really freaking angry, neither of which is a good feeling.
@darthplagueis132 жыл бұрын
As for gif: One: it's not pronounced jiff because GIF is an acronym that stands for Graphics Interchange Formate and the pronunciation carries over. It's not freaking pronounced jrafics.
