Important detail: notice they *turn their hand* (so that the little finger faces the ceiling) before bridging and moving around. Turning the hand gives you a split second to escape. If the thumb faces the ceiling, the armlock will quickly take effect (because of the position of your elbow).

This also highlights why it’s a better practice to have both legs across the body, but yes, if someone puts this on you quickly, you’re still very done. I like the flow of the drill, though, intended to get repetition in for position training.

Brilliant technique but you hardly ever see it in competition? Maybe because too many judoka focus on attacking rather than defense and escape?
