Light bends when it moves through a different density medium right. And enough sound or energy can change the density of the air. So if light can pass through air and air can change densities due to high pressure like the jet passing through it, you can basically see air. Same goes with the heat waves you see on really hot days and the "water" mirages you see on roads.

2:48 this algae has produced manyh beautifull photos, it can be seen in waves as the motion makes them bioluminece( correct my writing this feels so wrong). they can be bought online, though it is quite hard to source. they live in salty water and do not make light if they haven't made enough energy photosynthetising. In the night their light is much more clear, though they stop making light after the energy they stored is exhausted. this algae is cool, and one day i have tow options to witness this algae: 1- go to one of the pacific island where it is known to be present 2- make a fountain with a small basin to turn on at dusk, that way i can still watch my videos with light, exept it's a really cool light
@CheeseyBreezey2 жыл бұрын
The bioluminescent algae is actually present on beaches in many parts of the world, most commonly seen photographed from south America, if I remember right it can be fairly toxic to humans, but the bioluminescence is mostly in response to the stimuli from the water being disturbed. It's theorized that they do this specifically when the water is disturbed to that predatory fish will come eat the fish that are trying to eat the algae this letting more of the algae live.

with the sound barrier please correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure what you are seeing is not the sound being broken but the pressure wave from moving faster than the air particles can which creates a sonic boom because sound is just vibrations in air so if you are moving faster than the air or vibrations can move you are basically compressing the air into a pocket which is released as a sonic boom again please correct me if I am wrong I do not have a degree in this subject or anything so I am not an authority on this

The jet is moving faster than sound, which of course displaces a lot of air really fast. The reason you can see it is because of a difference in pressure between the air directly around the jet and air further off. I don't know much of the science behind a sonic boom, but I do know some.

the aircraft, what you are seeing is atmospheric compression. as the air becomes compressed water partials in the air also become compressed and become visible. in doing so it creates light redactions, as well as a semi visible fog. Now since the air speed on different parts of the plane are at different speeds... ie the air flow over one part may be supersonic, but another part will be subsonic, you will see the shock cone form over different parts.

Ok.. just looked up infrared because I didn't know thermal was different.. and they look basically the same?.. i don't understand how everything that was green is now red. How does that work?
@RealMissApathy2 жыл бұрын
To my knowladge thermal is more warmth-based. Every object emits waves and while infrared is a fixed wavelenght, thermal can be emitted through various wavelenght. At least, thats what my google search came to a conclusion as. Maybe that helps!
@evanrigel9542 жыл бұрын
a lot of the time thermal cameras are incorrectly described as being infrared (since infrared wavelengths radiate heat it's an understandable mistake) but true infrared cameras are less common and more expensive, and they make plants look alien. I'm afraid I cant properly explain it to you, it's a bit above my expertise, but they're used a lot in botany, and they can show photosynthesis in action (a lot of green plants look pure white under infrared). if you want a proper explanation, you're better off going to reddit's r/askscience
