One of my favourite songs of all time. Røyksopp are amazing. They do wonderful collaborations with Scandinavian women vocalists, here Susanne Sundfør who is a very well respected Norwegian artist, her album Ten Love Songs is a favourite. They have produced some great stuff with Robyn, The girl and the robot and monument are two that spring to mind. They also do amazing instrumental music,. Alpha male is a stunner, and quirky ones like Røyksopp forever or happy up here. Its joyous music, the undisputed kings of electronica. Have you ever reacted or heard the UK band called Goldfrapp? You'd love them, try some early stuff, Lovely Head to start then utopia are weird & wonderful. If you want to stay Nordic then you know Aurora clearly but have you heard Eivør, her music is Folktronic, she's Faroese and songs like falling free (live at the old theatre Torshavn) and Truth (at Studio bloch) are incredible, sung in English. You almost have to hear her live to appreciate how incredible her voice is and her synth guy is a mastermind. Gullspunnin is also great and good if you want to hear the Faroese language sung. Thanks for this reaction, was great to hear the song and that you got it!

The terrorist attack was a bomb in oslo city, and the second attack which killed more was on a tiny island where youths were camping. Running to the sea could be all the kids jumping in the water trying to swim away from the bullets. Super sad.
@KesterBandlien19753 жыл бұрын
Political youths from the Labor Party having their summer-camp, like they have every summer, the last 70 years. The terrorist got onboard the only one Litle ferry that connects the Island to the mainland, dressed as an policeman from the anti-terror task force. He told the leading adults for the camp that the reason for his sudden appearance was for safety-reasons, regarding to the massiv bomb just blown off placed outside the Government Quarter. But the fact is that he pulled up his gun and killed the adults, before he loaded him self up with a automatic assault rifle and a whole lot of bullets, and startet his killing hunt for the teenagers, now running around in panic with literally nowhere to hide... his hunt lasted for more than 1 hour, before surrendering to the police. He fired 300 shots and left behind 65 killed and 66 wounded young people between 14 - 25 years old.

more info about the song from the band performing this on live tv. "For a long time we've been considering an artist collaboration with Susanne Sundfør, and the final anniversary show of NRK Lydverket turned out to be the ideal time and place. Initially, we thought about performing a pure cover version, but the chemistry and vibes between the three of us was out of the ordinary, which led us to put together a new track from scratch. The song Running To The Sea was written and recorded in two days, just in time for the TV-performance. Susanne possesses a unique combination of distinctiveness and international talent, unique far beyond the borders of Norway. In addition, she has insightful knowledge on cooking inside a pit dug out of the ground. Susanne delivered gold on her first vocal take. We still asked her to do another 58 though. These were never used, however, having these unused vocal takes available created an atmosphere of luxury in the studio."

Directly translated to english, røyksopp means smoke mushroom. It's a kind of mushroom that spreads its spores in what seems to be a smoke cloud. Hence the name.

Just to clarify a little about the terrorist attacks on 22 July in 2011. Because there were two attacks done on the same day, by the same man. *The first attack* was on the ''Regjeringskvartalet'' (Norwegian Government Quarter), with a (fertilizer-based) car bomb on a timer. When the bomb went off, a lot off things was going on.... *Generally, a lot of confusion and fear.* Was it an Islamic attack? A retaliation of Osama Bin Laden's death? There was a lot of suspicion going around, and many with Arabic background were afraid of a potential mob mentality (whether of small isolated nature or a larger widespread scale). *The ''Beredskapstroppen''* (Norway's version of S.W.A.T.) was concentrating their attention on the Government Quarter, handling all the misinformation. Trying to get control of all fear and confusion going around. Would there be another attack on one of the political target? (Sadly yes) Would the royalty , Prime minister, the ''Stortingsbygget'' (parliament building), an embassy or the train station next? (no) *8 people died and at least 209 were wounded from the bomb.* While all of this was going on, Anders Breivik was well on his way to the place of *his second attack* . The Annual AUF (Workers' Youth League) summer camp at Utøya island, dressed as a police officer armed with a Glock 34, a Ruger mini-14 and a lot of hollow pointed ammunition. When he arrived at the island, he started to kill the young teenagers, young adults and adults of the camp. Yelling out "You are going to die today, Marxists!" and the like. He would also be trying to lure out his victims by saying that they had the shooter under control and it was safe to come out. During all of this, many would *run out to the sea* and hide there. wondering if they should try to swim to the mainland or wait for rescue boats. After 1 and a half hours was stopped by the police special unit. *69 was killed, the youngest being 14 years old. And at least 110 wounded.* Between the two attacks... 77 dead and many more wounded. And a very angry nation.

Some additional context for the lyrics: While the terrorist attack started with a bomb in Oslo, it was a distraction to draw police away. At the same time on an island called Utøya where there was a youth camp for the youth wing of the Norwegian social democratic Party. Anders Breivik, a neo-nazi, disguised himself as a police officer, claiming he was there for their protection because of the bombing. He then proceeded to hunt down the children on the island with a rifle. Survivors described how they'd lie in the sand pretending to be dead ("all is wasted in the sand, like break diamonds with your hands") and they would hear him walk around and shoot their friends around them to make sure they were dead. Many of the survivors fled by running into the sea where brave citizens were trying to rescue children trying to swim from the island. Norway isn't a huge country, and it's difficult to find someone who didn't lose someone, or doesn't know anyone who lost someone in that attack. I'm Swedish, and I had Norwegian friends at the time. I still vividly remember how sick I felt when this was happening, and it still stirs up a lot of anxiety in me.

Aurora has made a song about the same thing. The terrorist akt on Utøya in Norway. One man killed near 100 Young politicans on a small Island named Utøya. Her song is The little boy in the grass U should listen to that to!.
@Accolonian3 жыл бұрын
So the terrorist attack was in two parts. A bomb in the city as a distraction for the police. And meanwhile the bomber went to a little island where a political youth group was having a summer camp and started shooting. The kids were trapped on the island with the shooter and when I hear this title I think of the kids that tried to swim away from the island or were shot while trying to get to it. I don't know if that is what it is referring to. As a side note, Aurora did a song about this same event called "Little boy in the grass" which puts a spin on that title when you realise what it is about.
