Another great vid guys, thank you for all the hard work. One thing of note, not a great idea to ride a GS off road alone, always travel in a group because if you drop it chances are you will never pick it up alone.

Bikes are only heavy when you drop them. On the ORS Wales school we had girls at 5’ 6” picking bikes up, older gents at 64 years of age picking them up. It is simply technique. Mind you when you run if fully laden off road into a ditch, it’s good to have your friends about. Bikes are very well balanced, take one out on a demo ride.

It seems like you wouldn't want to be doing these types of trips alone on these big ADV bikes when you inevitably go down. These are some heavy, heavy bikes. Of course you want company to share the adventure. Great video, and looks like a lot of fun was had. : )

Hello. Why not? In fact, it would be easier to do the job with 170 kg wet than trying to ride a 240 kg Behemont. All it needs are some proper off-road tires and some handlebar raisers. Also, it's a pity that bmw doesn't offer spoked wheels.

Or even the old F650 single-cylinder. In fact I think the old AT and F650 single would do much better than their newer counter parts. Less refined and less power, but also less weight. That said you don't learn anything by taking the easy route.

The GS 1200 is an excellent running bike for 3 years, then the warranty expires and the GS begins to fall apart, at this point the GS becomes very very expensive to own!

They(bmw) couldnt make a proper final drive, to just not fail. All other brands, no problem, but not bmw. Great bikes though, when they work.

Pai, daca e vorba de gama GS, poti merge pe un F650 mai vechi, care va rezista cu brio pe toate drumurile. Mai e si F700, dar e mai stradal. Altfel, orice motocicleta de clasa medie, sa n-aiba mult peste 200 de kg :) Cu abs. Decuplabil, daca vrei si enduro.

BMW R1200 GS is cool bikes, but waaay too heavy for real offroad. The all new BMW F 850 GS is much more true offroad inspired.. Try it, review it in 2018.

The 1200 GS, and now the newer 1250 GS, are excellent off-roaders, but need to be used within a group of three or more, in case you need to pull one out of a tricky situation, as here. If you 'drop' one of these on flat ground, they don't go over further than the boxer engine's crash bars allow, about 45 degrees!
