There are so much positive things to mention about SA. We need to carry on with being positive and be more entrepreneurial in order to open businesses. We just have to believe in our potential as a nation.

How much wild caught fish does it take to feed all the farmed salmon?
@LivinginSAtv3 жыл бұрын
You may want to have a look at this. www.fisheries.noaa.gov/insight/feeds-aquaculture#:~:text=As%20ingredients%20in%20aquaculture%20feed,and%20docosahexaenoic%20acid%20(DHA).

@@LivinginSAtv "Globally, aquaculture uses about half a metric ton of wild whole fish to produce one metric ton of farmed seafood, meaning that aquaculture is a net producer of fish protein". A sudden increase in aquaculture without the same increase in alternative food for the fish would have a direct effect on wild fish populations.

I read somewhere that COEGA has reached a financing close for a desalination plant in Gqeberha last week, do you know anything about it?

Thank you for the great content you put out. However this one is very controversial in terms of climate change and depletion of our sea resources. While we hope for self sustainability in South Africa, I hope South Africa will be careful not to fall prey or be party to the ocean industry lies. Please watch the Netflix documentary on 'Seaspiracy' and let me know if this is the direction our agriculture sector wants to take South Africa.

Thank you for your comment. I am aware of it, but didnt see it yet. I am always looking to learn new points of view.😃

There are some misconceptions here. The entire oceans economy (which includes fisheries, minerals and resources, shipping/transport and tourism) is the one valued at R177 billion. Aquaculture alone as a sector does not even reach a R1 billion at the moment.
