R1Liz - Can-Am Q&A

Last month I asked my followers for their questions about the Can-Am F3S and my experience using it to get to Austria and back for the Großglockner challenge. Here are the most popular questions and my answers, helped out by Mark from Offshore Performance.
That’s it from me and my three wheeled friend for a while (I believe the fluorescent beast might be going up for sale, now it’s got a few too many miles on it for showroom life!) but I have to plan something fun to do in winter with them - so your suggestions are welcome; where do you want to see me to take a 3 wheeler next? Do you think the hardcore Dragon Rally attendees will embrace this type of 3 wheeler? Or maybe a solo winter adventure to Scotland where the ice won’t be such a challenge with the stability of 3 wheels… let me know in the comments!

Great Q&A Liz! Love your point of view on the CanAm. It is fun on its own. I never thought I would ever have a motorcycle until I got my Spyder RT Sea-to-Sky in 2022. Cheers Liz! P.S. that's a great dealership you have there!

In the UK the rules are different. Maintenance is ok if you have a lift and certain tools. Currently at 78k km on my 2019 Ryker rally, on a solo roadtrip heading north. I would not have done this on two wheels solo. Arctic circle will be reached today. 66-33. Then Lofoten. After that, not sure.

I would love to know how much they bump steer , cos the nature of a two wheel set up at the front is unstable And Liz , relax on camera 😊😊😊😊

Actually the reverse is true. They're much more stable than a traditional trike with it's 2 wheels at the back. It's true that the steering is very sensitive to the slightest input via the handlebars, but once you're used to it you can scream into corners at a speed that traditional trike s can only dream of 😉😁

Oh Liz. I realise a girl has to eat but... The boss-fella starts with his big usp... You don't need a bike license. And despite all the defenders who'll start on the 'disabled riders get a second chance etc etc kick', that's why people buy them. They can't be bothered to go out and get a bike license. Something you did, and I did, and all the two wheeled riders did. Hell, it ain't that hard, they gave me one... But deep down, they really want to be bikers. Funny that innit?

Appreciate your take on it (genuinely enjoy the discussion), I think in some cases you’re right - maybe for some genres of biker wannabes, but for a lot of people, particularly people I met at the festival of speed, it’s just a new fun thing, totally its own entity and it’s a relief that people can experience this new exciting thing without needing to do a whole test. Ultimately a lot of your motorcycle lessons and tests is to manoeuvre a bike without falling or dropping it - it’s a whole new skill set, which you don’t need on a 3 wheeler that won’t fall, so I understand this rule and it opens doors for people with no interest in riding two wheels. A small minority fill your description and they’re probably the ones making the most noise but I think most people are just after a good time. Maybe. 😌

@R1_Liz Good points well made, but wherever I go, I see them turning up and pretending to be bikers. If it's a separate discipline, that's all to the good. They can have their own meetings away from the two-wheeled fraternity. I used to be a member of a FB site called 'Lincolnshire Bikers'. There was some triker who kept chipping in comments, and eventually, someone said: 'shouldn't you be writing on the Lincolnshire Trikers' site? Not me, btw, but I could see what he meant. I feel the same about quads too. And the Can-Am is just about the ugliest thing yet made by the hand of man. My partner Suz (Triumph Bobber, Ducati Monster, Francis Barnett 250 and Mash 400) said something very rude about how you looked in that Q&A session. Not about you exactly, about the other.

@@andrewjones1649 I think you’re completely missing the point. This is just a new mode of transport it’s not a bike and it’s not a car but you can drive it on both licenses. I’m old enough to remember when the C5 came out it wasn’t a pushbike or a go cart it was an electric vehicle just something different. So I don’t think this should be compared to motorcycles because it’s something new. It even looks different from a conventional trike motorcycle. Just my opinion to be honest they don’t really appeal to me but life is for living.

@ed7540 Yes, that's all good. Apart from the fact that the people who are buying these on the whole don't see it that way. Neither in fact does the guy who owns the shop who lends Liz one. His main selling point is that you don't need a bike license, and all those 'expensive courses' etc.

@@andrewjones1649 hi. Yes you have a point about the guy selling them he is aiming more at the biker market by only having Liz there. Unless he was just trying to get a biker’s opinion of them of which she did a great job, because she wasn’t trying to sell us on them she just gave a honest opinion. I think the type of people who will buy these things are the type who like attention. Personally it’s the sort of thing you have a laugh with when you’re on holiday.
