Good little video Liz, really useful for those who haven't travelled much or at all. One thing I would say, it is worth telling your bank where/when you're going as they sometimes panic when use your card in multiple countries in a short time. Last year my bank refused a payment for this and I had to faff about phoning them from Austria.

Thank you for this video! I personally find it hard to book anything because the commitment of travel scares me and I end up thinking of everything that could possibly go wrong. But where's the adventure in that? Your Norway trip inspired me and motivates me to be brave and get out of my comfort zone. I'm excited for this Iceland trip in May 😊
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
Thank you! I’m excited too 😁 For me, once I’d hit ‘pay’ on the first boat booking my attitude changed, once you book the first boat it stops being ‘what if’ and you start thinking about just getting on with it - the ‘what if’s will evaporate. And then a week before you leave you might start panicking, but again, once you’re going you’ll feel much better! Nerves are a horrible thing until you learn the patterns and can try to ignore them 😊

Excellent stuff ,have a great trip 👍, those ferry prices to Iceland don't seem too bad when you compare to them to the IOM steam packet company TT week prices for a four hour trip! 😅😅
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
IOM TT prices are incomparable 😂 for May the prices are good, considering it’s 6 days accommodation. Maybe I’ll go to the Isle Of Man too, but away from the racing when the prices aren’t as wild

So not the only one that does this to plan a trip didnt know they dropped the ferrys from up north to the Faroe Islands and i didnt know they did Ferry from newhaven as that might work ouit good for a trip i am planning this year thanks for that well hope all goes well cant wait to see what you get up too
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
DFDS have always been the option I’ve used, they used to go out from Portsmouth but I think that’s just the fancy boats now. Newhaven Dieppe is just so convenient particularly the 11pm one - not quite a nights sleep but head down enough for a full day riding when you land, and if you’re quick you can get past Antwerp before rush hour starts

Going to be a great adventure. Seems like May is a good time to travel around Iceland when you will get the benifits of the spring and be less crowded in tourist areas. Best avoid the F roads which might be gravel and have some river crossings. Look forward to see how it turns out. Safe journey.🙏👍
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
I’m there for 8 days so my overall goal is to get round the route 1 with some small detours if I can. I don’t mind some hard pack gravel but I’ll avoid anything that’s likely to have river crossing or anything loose/muddy. I read that May is a good time to go to see wildlife too so I’m excited for that

I'm planning on taking a solo moto trip this year, so this definitely helps with me seeing someone else go through it, inspiration and to know im not alone lol. Any tips on doing a solo trip? I think nerves hold me back the most.
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
Heyyy, you’ll love it! Think about what makes you most nervous and start somewhere where those things are less of an issue (don’t like cold, go south, don’t like being alone, go to popular bike places etc - make it easy for yourself first). Spend time on maps getting used to the area and by the time you go there’s nothing to be worried about.

A other great adventure well done liz.what will you do to the bike service?did you get your brake noise sorted
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
I’m gonna get the tools I need to look after my chain properly but as for servicing it won’t need anything for another 6000 miles and this trip will only be about 3,500 - she’ll probably get a mini service when we get home. The brake noise isn’t happening as often as it was so I’m just keeping an eye on it for now

Sounds cheap when compared to our Newfoundland trip in June. 13 hour ferry ride with cabin, bike, wife and myself is $650 Canadian each way. We do not camp and will be Hotels entire trip. Sounds like you will be having another epic trip.
@R1_Liz11 ай бұрын
I’m amazed at how expensive it can be to take this Iceland ferry but I guess it can be treated like a cruise, this is where going solo isn’t so cost effective. I want to camp, but since it’s only 8 days I am trying to plan a route to include hostels since I’m hearing more and more that May is a cold time to go 😬

I know! The boat routes out of the UK are so disappointing - you can go south but not north. Legend says you used to be able to get directly to Norway from north England but that’s stopped now, imagine the possibilities if they brought it back 😩
