Great projects, however they often price out South Africans and cater to foreign buyers. This has always plagued Cape Town or specifically the City Bowl. On the other hand, great investment opportunities for property speculators!

It looks absolutely congested with those residential buildings built up to the harbour. A massive influx of people in that area would cause a major traffic nightmare. The port is a busy working industrial area. It's not a good idea for the city to encroach on it. My suggestion is to put those highways underground to connect to the west of the city, then cover them up with an urban park and open public venues, not tons of buildings. We should look at Barcelona and Boston for inspiration.

It’s cute but not practical. I left my job in the CBD because of the traffic nightmare getting into town. Think of spreading out to areas like Century city and Bellville. A small fraction of Capetonians live in the CBD. And Lawd knows I’d hate to live in the city. Bring it closer to Stellenbosch, Kuilsriver, Bellville, the ghettos would benefit much more
@harkeb
@harkeb 2 жыл бұрын
I think the city should really think big and look towards the long term future. Centralising everything in Cape Town city bowl, is impractical and not the answer to becoming a global, competitive city. To spread out development, unlock more opportunities and to make CT more functional, other nodes should be developed. Bellville, being central and the most accessible from all parts of the metropole, should be turned into the financial cbd and transportation hub of CT, like La Defense is to Paris, or the City is to London. The City Bowl should solely focus on being the tourist, cultural and government hub.

Spot on. Too much is being cramped into such a tiny space...traffic is already a nightmare as everyone travel to and from the city centre to work

I think they should extend the entire city.. Plett, George and other towns should be counties of cape town then they can make the western cape expand into the north a little

Cape Town needs to be protected from the ANC. Cape Town should have some kind of autonomous city-state status like Monaco or Singapore.

I'm trying to find the right words as not to sound to harsh and critical, because a lot of effort have been put into this. But the glamor vision of a group of business people vs the needs of people, social conditions, and what happens in reality - differs by light years. I don't care what anyone says, the only vision for any country should be based on Biblical principles. The basis of any vision should be immediate needs of people: water, food, clothing, shelter, safety, well being, etc. Architecture, glamor and futuristic things is cool, but it's totally unsustainable and the more they focus on that, the more the gap widens between the poor and wealthy people, the more society falls apart. I live in Bellville, Cape Town. Believe me, this type of development will solve NO issues or needs, or improve ANY suburb in Cape Town. Just take a walking tour through any suburb from Bellville to the Cape Flats, you will realize what dire situations we are in.

The development vision looks great. Not sure if these new developments projects could change directions due to covid. I am sure there will be some damage done to dev projects as aftermaths of this Pandemic.

These projects for the most part, though, are being funded and executed by the private sector, and you can *definitely* trust the private sector to pull through, far more than the public sector.

CapeTown SA is 4.6 million as of 2020 so about 2050 it be least than 10 million or up and the Western Cape aka Greater cape town be least than 15 million. Cape Town RSA population is 4.6 million as of 2020 and area size is 944 square miles. Los Angeles California Population is 4 million as of 2020 and area size is 502 square miles. Both cities are diverse ASF Cape Town RSA is los Angeles on steroids I say it's like california the Western Cape aka Greater cape town is entire West coast of United States, Mexico and Brazil on Bath salts I put half of Northern Cape and half of Eastern Cape stop at Port Elizabeth part of Greater CapeTown SA also.

SA is seen as unsafe. the water is too rough for it to be something like Monaco, its too isolated. but its the lack of safety is its biggest problem. looks what happening in Durban. this is just a rendering, you could do the same kind of rendering for Afghanistan.
