Looks like $1 million is the bare minimum or less. You have not accounted for inflation which is a killer of retirement.

@@praveenchawla6999 you are absolutely right about inflation too, and it is higher in India. But keep in mind, if you have invested in a house, a good percentage of your outflow is taken care of. For day to day needs, inflation doesn’t hit upper middle classes as much

Unless someone is looking at high end homes, 1 - 1.5 lakh per month for rent is on the higher side. In my limited knowledge, even in metros you can easily get reasonably good 2 - 3 bhk apartments for 40 - 50k per month.

@@Rahul-pr1zr very true. Price of housing can be highly elastic based on amenities and location But some NRIs and expats who have lived in nice single family homes may expect similar living that may turn out to be expensive- 3-4 BHK in upscale areas near tech parks

Million dollars r too much as i have come back from US and can not spend $200 each month. if u don;t live in a big city living is very cheap and smaller cities have everything u need. u can retire for $ 50000 if u own a house. small city homes rent for R 20,000 and u don't need a driver

Even in US it's possible to live with rs 20000 if you don't live in big cities and popular states.... And retire better than India

@@livinghope1561 This assumes you have a house paid off. Housing and Car/Transport is the most major expense bucket
