The software wasn't shitty, their tools sound good. Try compare them for yourself next to the best plugins you can find. It was a security decision made in the days when everyone complained about iLok. Plus as the CEO stated, iLok wouldn't work with their software structure. It's pretty straight forward. Same here regarding Arturia - I bought V9 about 2.5 weeks ago and my new upgrade is 199, once more. I contacted support and they came back with a 'we worked hard on this update, so you gotta pay again' response. Not even a coupon (going from V8 to VX would have been 299, I believe). Pretty shitty response, in my opinion.

They also don't allow you to resale plugins that you get as 'bonus' plugins. Since I got MinFreak V with V Collection 9 I am not able to sell, even though it isn't labeled as NFR. They also don't let you sell plugins that you own, unless you have owned them for 6 months.

I just got V collection 9 and fx 4 for $100 bucks each for Black Friday. I’m not mad at all. In top of that Analog labs did get updated with presets from all the new synths except maybe the augment ones. They also are quick to provide me with specific updates to my Microfreak that I’ve removed the keys from. They care not that I modded it and the regular updates don’t work for it. I think that’s pretty awesome. Arturia has recently become one of my favorite music companies. At least for now. Lol

Arturia. Last I updated was from V Collection 5 to V Collection 6 (I got on board with V2 I think). I took note of how little change there was between V5 and V6 and have just sat on it ever since. I agree the upgrade price is hardly justifiable, but no one is forcing you to upgrade. My VSTis are - sorry, my "Collection" is - still working fine.

For software that I buy that makes it too much of a pain, I just buy it then pirate it. Air is one company that makes it such a pain because they limit how many installs you can do, and I went through a time where i had several computers take a shit on me, so I couldn't reinstall their plugins without going through a bunch of bullshit, so I just pirate their software. Blows my mind that companies are still using ilok, it does nothing to prevent piracy.
