I think I've watched every single video on the Move, and I felt like I knew the downsides when I decided to buy it anyway. And holy moly, I love this little machine so much! And I can't explain it in tech specs, it's like a feel or a vibe thing. I love making music, but I don't have much time for it these days, and this thing completely solved that. Within minutes I have an idea up and running, and after a session of about an hour or two later the same day I'll be happy with it. That's when I import the session into Ableton Live and flesh out the arrangement and mix it. Including adding as many tracks as the song needs. Yes, I would love to be able to add that final top line or another complimentary atmospheric pad or something when I've used up my 4 tracks. But that's when I start resampling stuff down and into slots on a drum track and just make a new synth track for whatever I need. This is the perfect device for me, but it might not be for you 😊

Imo, the MIDI shit is really reaeealealelalyly overrated in general. I promise you, with like unreal or unity you could easily make a not totally convoluted and limited custom synth that has capabilities beyond serum and/or fucking name it...IF, you don't use MIDI. Not that MIDI is useless, it's just...kinda meh. It's really not that fucking difficult. With say, a 32bit input signal per key, which is a mere several million times more than MIDI and arbitrary mapping. For instance, let's say I press a button that happens to send a 32bit signal, and with some unknown ninja magics it is somehow turned into not a 1bit signal.

If you look at a band like Khruangbin who do a great live show, they have drums, bass, guitar, and sometimes vocals. That’s 4 tracks.

Even if it was 6 or 8 tracks the same complaint would stand. I don't think it's smart to compare a hardware device to a software as far as capabilities. Sampling allows for alot more so sample. A problem worth looking at is how afraid users are to commit to a sample. I have a bunch of samplers that allow me to sample my synth and play live as if I have my synth but I don't because I may want to adjust something.

I honestly feel like this is a symptom of a much larger problem with the music production/synthesizer market in general. Prior to the 2000s you had equipment that was impressive but prohibitively expensive. Now we have more affordable gear but the capabilities of the gear reflect those low price points. There are things that I think companies cheap out on like Roland limited number of patch storage on a lot of their synths (e.g. system 1, boutiques, etc.). There’s a lot of fun affordable synths out there for beginners but it’s gets weird for intermediate musicians because you have to make a jump from beginner friendly mono synths with basic sequencing and modulation options to powerhouse workstation synths with a little too much complexity. There’s not a whole lot of intermediate synths for people who are experienced enough to need more capabilities but don’t have 2-3 grand to throw down on the full size version of the synth with all of the features.

Well that's interesting. Suddenly a combination of CCA CRAs and 384khz 32bit USB-C DAC is like $20 (which is actually what I use, but I bought that combo separately some time ago and it's pretty effective). I would say that's a pretty good combo for basic stuff if you're on a budget. That's an in-line mic, IEMs and 384khz dac that you probably need to add a heatsink to coz it's pretty fucking hardcore considering. The CCAs i've got, are similar to Alesis SRP100s, but more low range and easier to power. The high range is slightly wonky. Not as bad as say some other KZs. I actually recommend getting the IEMs *without* mics. Yet, ironically, some of the best budget mics are on IEMs...

I really liked the possibilities of the OP-Z sequencer. The OP-XY looks promising, but at what cost, unfortunately! And honestly, didn’t you also feel, like me, that all the KZbin videos of the OP-XY mostly showcase mediocre music? I haven’t heard anything yet that makes me want to dive in. This is also a comment that applies to the OP-Z, which, despite its punch-in capabilities, often results in mediocre music, particularly in terms of synthesis quality. Take Cuckoo, for example-his music doesn’t inspire me.

I can totally relate to the NWN thing. But to me Baldur's Gate had a much cooler atmosphere aesthetically. I cheated though, and used a party of 6 exactly the same magician. I also cheated in crimsonland (which I comfortably held the world record for in 2 player). You may think I'm joking, but...

If it had more tracks, people would just be bitching that it didn't have enough automation visualisation, effects chaining, HD screen, subpak, etc. etc. I bought it for the fact that it is dumb and simple, because I suffer from intense choice paralysis/geekery. I never planned to finish tracks on it. It's a way to get out of my dingey spare room/junk room/spare bedroom/"studio" and be inspired. For this it performs admirably. I don't get stuck thinking about shit (or browsing the internet eheh). I was glad to hear the MIDI was just rushed to release though... as that is absolute second rate garbage currently. FWIW the discord is fine so far. Give it a few more weeks.

They don’t want to increase the number of tracks because they want you to transfer the song over to Abletok Live to finish it. They still want to direct people to the program, and don’t want anybody to buy this and never buy Live. They want people to buy this then switch or buy Live as well

I would honestly be fine with 4 tracks if we also could do 4 midi tracks where you could sequence external gear. There is no way you can convince me midi uses much cpu :-/

This guy is ridiculous. He sounds like Terrence Howard trying to convince people he has invented a new form of physics. I have worked in studio and live sound since the 1980s, and the idea that you can't produce quality recordings without spending upwards of $100k is not only wrong, it's stupid

I think they are allowed to make a product with four tracks without the entitled peeing their pants. They have a standalone device with unlimited tracks, other companies and products exist. Or you could stop peeing your pants and get proactive, and develop the device that you want for yourself, rather than expect others to jump through hoops while you don't turn up. Let's face it, are you ever going to be happy? Isn't this the mode of operation?
