+foolishevil It's definitely impressive to see in action, but a big drum like that takes a long time to spin up. A smaller drum spins up faster, reaches higher rotational speeds and can ultimately carry more energy as a result.

Speaking of using wood, my 12lb hockey robot is built with red oak. The stuff is practically as strong as steel, though it can't deform and is thus not as durable in the long run. Still, for bot hockey you don't really need to be as concerned about your armor as only lifters, wedges and unarmed dustpans are allowed.

Back in the days horizontal spinner has a much better fighting chance cuz the arena was much bigger. It gives them the space needed to distance themselves from the opponent and spin up. These days, the battlebots arena is so small, you have zero space to move around.

these spin bots would be easy to defeat, all you would need to do is have some semi loose wire around your bot that the spin things would snag then entangle and jam up. These low spinners a defeat would be like a hilty type charged nailer and an arm from above the height (adjustable height) and then a cable to this nail. And it would pull the nailing bot towards the nailed bot and would bind up the motor. Also I am wondering what a static discharge type thing would do. Like have some huge capacitors charged so when the other bot contacts the surface of your bot it would discharge very quickly possibly killing the electronics of the other bot.
