The transmission I got is straight cut gears with synchromesh engagement. It is not a dog box engagement. When I racing NASCAR I have a dog box but not in this car. Brand is PAR Gearset from Australia

I own a 2003 fiesta. It's just a very normal daily driver but the trans was changed by the previous owner and it has straight cut gears... When i floor it sometimes you can really hear it. Even tho it's just a normal car that sounds makes me happy

Got totaled last year, by an idiot who had the smart idea of going 90 on a 50 road, on a rainy day, on a very wet and very slippery old cobbled road. I got rear ended pretty damn good lmao. The car didn't make it. The rear was pretty much mangled and the chassis was off by quite some margin. It drove... But oh god that what quite an experience 🤣. I was more crab walking that I was driving 💀

I think the reason why there's no whine in fourth gear is because the selector collar that meshes the gears together is just directly connecting the input and output shafts with no gears meshing, as fourth gear in most 5 speed transmissions is a 1:1 ratio of input shaft speed to output shaft speed.

I'm thinking of getting a par gearset for my 99 eclipse gsx 5 speed. Was going to go dogbox but someone told me par makes strong gears with synchros. The noise would annoy me. Well, my theory why you can't hear the whine from gearbox in 4th gear, because it's a gear, when the input and output shafts are connected directly, without reduction (the gear ratio between them is 1:1). The 5th gear is an overdrive gear, when output shaft spins faster than input and the gears are used again to obtain a ratio.

So, for those not familiar with SCG vs Helical Gears, there are advantages to both. With SC you have no lateral or transverse loads on the transmission so the case can be smaller and lighter. There is only the force of thrust on the transmission from the engine. The downside (for a daily driver I think they sound sweet) is the high-pitched whine from the gears meshing. The advantage to this design is a lighter clutch and transmission assembly size can also be reduced as the gears are smaller. The Helical gear system is advantageous as it has virtually no noise, and can be 98% efficient in transferring the power from the engine to the wheels. The downside of course are the lateral and transverse loads that helical gears create during operation that can rip the transmission apart under high loads. Hence a robust and beefy housing must be employed adding unwanted weight to the vehicle.

Common misconception. Straight cut gears are not any stronger than helical gears. They just allow for a smaller gearbox and therefore a lighter gearbox because it does not need to be beefy as there is no axial thrust being applied. This is why you almost always see straight cut gears in racing or motorsports applications.

4th is 1:1 direct drive. Basicly the synchromesh (or dogs) just couples the output shaft directly on to the input shaft, thus the primary lay-shaft gears and the other gears are just free-spinning with no load on them when in 4th.

I've been wanting to find an upgrade of a very drivable high horsepower transmission and clutch. Can you say just how high WHP your gear box can now handle? Is it in the stock transmission case? What clutch are you using? Thank you for this video.

This gearset uses stock trans case but just replaces gearset internals. It's good for a 600-750WHP car. But, I since switched to sequential gearbox. I have a Samsonas sequential now and it does not use any stock parts at all, and definitely does not use the stock transmission case. It's its own full-blown transmission. This transmission can handle seen up to probably around 1500-1800 WHP range in skyline GTRs no issue. The AUS builds use it a lot. My Samsonas is in my other videos on my channel.

@@the_r34_gtr wow dude. I just saw the video. It's amazing. I recently picked up a clean 1989 E34 and doing a M50B25 turbo swap in it. Can't wait till it's done. These cars from 90's have so much more soul in them compare to modern cars.
