R36S with EmuELEC be careful

I ordered a new R36S hoping to get the one with EmuELEC and guess what? I got it! I wanted this particular one to see if I could be able to make it work just like the one that runs ArkOS. Unfortunately, this device is way harder to customize. It’s got no working apps. It doesn’t give you the option to connect to WiFi. It doesn’t give you the option to install Theme Master or to download themes. It doesn’t give you the option to install Ports through Port Master. The only app that worked was a terminal window app but if the device can not get connected to the internet, I think the terminal app is useless unless someone has coding skills and you upload code to the card to run it on terminal.
You can play all the games that you can play on an R36S running ArkOS so if you just want it for playing games it will work great. You will have to clone the card with cloning software if you want to use a better micro SD card because I could not flash a new card with EmuELEC. You can’t run ArkOS on this device or I wasn’t able to install it.
I was able to clone the stock card using Linux and I loaded my own roms so what I’ll do is keep it and resell it once I set it up.
My recommendation is if you are going to order one at this time, get in touch with the seller and ask them to confirm if the one they are selling is running ArkOS if that’s what you are looking for. If you don’t care for the operating system and just want to play games, this one will work fine. You will just have a harder time customizing the OS.
**EDIT**
I was able to flash the K36 EmuELEC OS to a new card that worked fine after I swapped the .dtb files from the original card that came with the device.
I was able to connect the device to the internet connecting it with a ethernet to USB C adapter directly onto the router. So I might be able to scrape art directly to the device but I haven’t tried it yet.

@@16bitsorhigher yes i do it shows files and when i go to boot the system it just hangs on the first screen with the 3 consoles and when i put a new card with ark on it or any other os it will A blink a red light in the middle or B turn on with a blank screen jelos os did that i tried to clone the disk with no real change and also you know how the back of the console usaly has a sticker saying game console or something like that there was no sticker on mine

@16bitsorhigher Yesterday i tried with a friend, I've a fake version too, with Linux software. Its original SD is " broken " like I can't see any files about the system, only about the emulators. Then, there are any partitions, but, it sign a (F) usd where I can't get access on it cuz it ask for an external usd when I click on it. The console, works, ok, but it can't save. Save state is broken, gets stock on 0%. I'm trying to find a solution to resolve or to make a new SD with arkos (it's original software. A friend told me maybe a Linux pc could help to read some invisible files that windows doesn't read. Let s see then. If u have one, let me know if u can resolve

Loose keys have nothing to do with whether it is original or not. Mine does the same sound when I shake it but it is original R36S and has Arkos. File manager works perfectly too.

@@Patriabuelo I wasn’t implying that was a way to distinguish them. I was just showing how my R36S has almost no noise and the EmuELEC one was noisy.

Hello i figured out how to flashy a new os onto this all you need is the only os that will work on it that is the os for the k36 the emuelec version 4.7 that is the only way you can flah it and you will still get the same error msges in it

@@raay411 Yes. That is what I actually wanted to get. I want to see if I can maybe tinker with it and get it to work but it is gonna be hard. The only thing that I can use on it is the terminal app because if I plug the device to a router directly through an ethernet to USB C adapter it will connect to the internet so I might be able to run scripts on it to install drivers or other apps. I still have to find out if there are any out there first.

my cousin got one for christmas but it came with a blank sd drive and ive downloaded the emulec dtb files and it shows something on the screen while charging but if i try and turn it on it stays black, what more files do i need

The white screen means wrong screen version, try them all. I had to do the same. Mine was version 1.

i was lucky to recieve a real r36s but new r36s now come with a different screen, terrible light bleed in top right. but for 25 euro i cant complain.

@@budgetking2591 that’s what makes this device such a great emulator. The price compared to all the phenomenal features. But it’s pretty fragile so you need to take care of it.

@@smartfelix007 yes! I already installed it and it runs great. It doesn’t recognize my WiFi dongle but it doesn’t recognize my Ethernet adapter so I was able to update to the latest version of ArkOS. Theme Master is not working but I was able to copy themes from my R36S and they worked. Port Master installed but I haven’t tried running Stardew Valley. I will try today. And the file manager works so I will try to mount a USB drive to the unit for file transferring. I’m so glad they came up with it.

@@smoothgaming9917 I didn’t add it. It came pre installed but in vain because you can’t do anything with it. The only app that works in there is the terminal. Nothing else works. The whole EmuELEC OS is broken in this system. The only thing they managed to make work is RetroArch. Luckily all the emulators work with the exception of N64, PSP, Saturn and NDS which run glitchy. I was able to run the script for Portmaster through the terminal but since I don’t have that much knowledge on the matter the only thing that I was able to install was the folder that says “Ports” but there was no Port installer. So I deleted it.
