Should You Get A Dual JD / Economics PhD?

Courtland Reyes asks if they should get an Econ PhD with a JD. They are a Econ/Math double major.
First of all, you are an amazing scholar! Keep it up.
It really depends on where you want to end up. I would not do a JD if you are not interested in law. I don’t think it makes much of a difference in terms of your salary of you are going into areas that don’t require it. However, you are likely to get into a law school or econ program.
Here is what it does offer you:
You are likely to have a higher salary because you can be in two schools.
You might be more likely to go into policy careers.
You might not like law if you go into research careers.
I would ask people that did that route at the different programs.
It matters a lot where you did the program.
