I just love it when the steam engine thunders towards the level crossing

It's got me how a steam engine can made to be commercially viable, even for 2004, on passenger services. Not complaining though for when it was still running, I wasn't even 7 so I am only seeing this though youtube!

No idea, they seemed to change the whistle quite a bit on it. I always liked the deep whistle they fitted to it when it first came out. You can hear it on my R711 to St Arnaud video.

it was a S.A.R 700 class whistle, my dad reckons it the exhaust beat sounds a lot like a South African railways 25 class

One of R711's Whisle sounds like the Hogwards Express from the Harry Potter series.

I personally like this one, and the whistle R 711 currently has. But that's just my opinion.

What happened to the steam trains when west coast rail shut shop?
@vrfan4 жыл бұрын
R711 went to Steamrail and is now in service on their tours. R766 went up to NSW for gauge conversion. R766 is operational but its return to service is just waiting on the paperwork, etc....

Sad that the high costs of replacing their diesels sent West Coast bust. I regret never having made it to Melbourne to take that Saturday train....……Hᴜɢʜ….ツ

HughFromAlice I did it a couple of times behind R711 and it was a great run down there. I usually caught the afternoon pass back with the S or B up the front.

VRfan - Train Videos Downunder I wish I'd taken time out to do exactly what you do :-) But on the other hand I've just come back from Wolsztyn in Poland after most enjoyable week or so on the footplate there.... my second time. Hugh

If you're still interested, SteamRail Victoria is doing an excursion down to Warnambool on May 12th, 2018 hauled by R711. The "Warnambool Westcoaster" is supposed to be an excursion celebrating WCR, and will be the first time that a steam locomotive will have been to Warnambool since 2004. Definitely worth looking up.

What type of whistle did R711 have back then?. Seems like it had a few in fact.
@somerandomdude15526 жыл бұрын

Standard V.R 5-chime, J-550's steam whistle to be exact as it has 'J550' etched on to the base.
