Over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, Steamrail operated a weekend tour hauled by North British built hudson steam locomotive R761 assisted by classic Clyde/GM diesel electric T395. The trip visited Swan Hill and Echuca on the Murray River in the north of the state and featured a range of classic sleeping carriages from The Overland, The Vinelander and The Southern Aurora.
This video features the return leg of the trip from Echuca to Melbourne, commencing with R761 and T395 accelerating away from Echuca in the crisp morning winter air, followed by scenes at Goornong and White Hills.
The second half of this video follows the evening run back to Melbourne with footage climbing the grades at Kangaroo Flat, Porcupine Hill and Chewton before rolling through Diggers Rest to the north of Melbourne.
