Personally I don't think it's a good idea. It might improve revenue for Gauteng but it will become a white elephant when the population doubles in future and there is very little water to play with. So only short term benefits will be realised, nor ling term ones. Remember Gauteng is already importing some of its water from the Lesotho Highlands via a system of rivers and pipes

Amazing looking estate , but the residents seem to complain a lot about water outages and power outages too, some might attribute that to ongoing constructions, also have seen complains about cracks on the buildings, so if you think about buying an investment property here, would probably say at least rent first to get a feel of the place as a resident before committing

It's an interesting project, and certainly looks good. I haven't been to Johannesburg (yet), but it doesn't really seem to have an existing waterfront, riverfront, etc. except for a handful of small lakes. That's odd for such a large city.

It never ceased to amaze me how many rich people there are in South Africa, and this is seen by how many lifestyle estates there are popping up everyday in SA especially joburg. But the unfortunate part is that most of us will never see the inside of those gates. You can live next door get still be close off from such beauty.

Its great.. But how many people will benefit financially from such a project. Only a hand full. We should start creating projects that will benefit communities, create provision, etc. There is to much of an emphasis on luxury, instead of needs. I would've created a lagoon like this, with more apartments around it, shops underneath the apartments, little side streets that leads to the lagoon, shopping mall, open to tourists and to the public(to pay entry fee off coarse), a jetty, mini harbour, overwater bungalouws, fresh water pond with aquatic life, beautiful garden park, transport centre, maximise the activities offered. etc etc A whole economy on its own.

These projects will unfortunately mean nothing for tourism. These are private lakes for residents only. I would've loved to visit the lake in Pretoria, but its build in a less than ideal location, and that is the only reason I didnt move.

I own at Kikuyu, next to Munyaka and the "unofficial policy" is that no "Nigerians" are allowed to rent any of the units. I think and suspect the only way a Nigerian would ever live there would have been through them buying using a "South African". Nevertheless, from the information I have, they will be watched like a hawk. After buying at Kikuyu I rented out my unit to one of our African brother, who claimed he was a Dr. It didn't take 4 months to realize something was brewing. In order to get rid of him I involved the estate management office and I was taken through the "unofficial policy". From what I could gather, Balwin has had enough and have taken an official position of not "entertaining" them. I was advised that whilst I am a private owner and can do whatever I want, they do not allow our brothers. As a black person I initially thought it was discrimination, but I realized that there was a need for the policy.
