In Belgium we got Celebi event before Mew. When the Pokémon craze was slowing down we suddenly had a Mew event at Game Mania stores all over Belgium. A Mew machine was present at each location. You couldn't use Pokémon Gold, Silver or Crystal cartridges to receive Mew but you had to use your old Red, Blue or Yellow cartridge.

In Mexico there were Mew events too. I went to the last one that was organized for the Gen 2 games. The event was held by the official Nintendo magazine of Mexico, which happened to be called Club Nintendo. You just had to bring an issue of the magazine, a Game Boy and a Gen 1 or Gen 2 game. One of the staff members plugged his Game Boy Advance to your system using an universal Game Link cable, then, he asked you to trade any pokémon and that was it. You could also get Celebi in that event (unless you hadn't brought a Gen 2 game). The gift pokémon belonged to a specific trainer (Ash for Mew and Hiro for Celebi), they also had set OT Numbers; finally, one of its stats was guaranteed to be 15 (the other 4 were random).

My Friend and I went to our local Toys R Us for the Mew event way back. He was one of the Mew winners! I had won a copy of Yellow from Radio Disney and was still waiting for it to arrive so, I didn't have a game to get Mew and opted out of entering. Since we were the only kids to show up, the guy snuck my friend a second Mew for me for whenever my game arrived. We were both beyond happy! Good times!

Funny fact. In Belgium we actually got a Mew event AFTER the Celebi event. You simple had to take your Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow cartridge with an empty slot to a chain store called Game Mania (Belgium's Gamestop) and they had a Mew Machine present at the shop. After they put a Mew on your cartridge they put a sticker on your cartridge that said "Mew inside". I don't remember what the OT of these Mew's were. Perhaps these few Mew/Celebi machines remained in Europe and are now somewhere collecting dust. The device did have a special adapter because it was basically a Japanese device being connected to a European powersocket.

Clarification on the Nintendo Power Mew: The IVs aren't the standard set used in all the other distributions, but that doesn't mean they aren't fixed. It's unlikely that the IVs were truly random, and even more unlikely that they could be Shiny.

I think there was a distribution contest by the end of the 90s in Mexico by a Nintendo magazine. I remember I met one of the winners of the game he said something like he received a high-level Mew with terrible attacks such as headbutts. He got a low replacement later a low-level Mew.

When I was little I got very into pokemon. My Grandparents bought me the red Gameboy Pocket and my Mom and Dad got me Pokemon Red. I got it for my 8th Birthday. I will never forget it. I remember one morning at about 5 am, they woke me up and told me I had to go to Grandparents because they had somewhere to be. They didn't tell me where, just that it was Important. A few hours later they came home. I was awoken by them because I just slept on the couch in the living room which was connected to the driveway door. They handed me my gameboy and said "We waited for 4 hours to try and get a secret special pokemon for you." I was shocked as I didnt even know about it, Just rumors from friends who had internet at the time and after 3 days of loading some crazy unreliable webpage, in the depths of the garbage some user mentioned he heard about said secret pokemon from a friend from japan, and that there was indeed 151 pokemon, that the show had it in the beginning and might be related to Mewtwo. The then said to me " We're sorry but we couldnt get it, they had a contest and only 3 people were drawn. But they did give us some promo cards and comics (the manga)." I was so happy even though I didnt win. I was so happy they did that for me and I still appreciate it even now and it makes me tearful with happiness. The promo cards were Mew btw, a Holo which i still have as well as the manga. confirmed the rumored rare pokemon. And now the hunt was on for another chance or way to get it. man the 90's were awesome, I miss the mystery behind the games and mons before datamining. But I have some great memories of the game and most importantly my Loving Parents and My Grandparents who are both gone. Cherish who and what you have. End grudges, learn to submit and forgive. Go tell who you love that you do love them.

An error made in the video regarding where the player's cartridge is slid into. If you look closely at the pictures available you will see the slot either being green or yellow. Clearly these were Gameboy Pockets as they came in Green and Yellow. The Super Gameboy 2 had a feature to be able to link up with a GameBoy so they must have simple connected a Gameboy Pocket to a Super Gameboy 2

Mew is my alltime favourite Pokémon. After watching this video I have to share my own Mew experiences. I remember how around 2003 me and my sister were at a game store in Arnhem when the boy behind the desk told us he knew a guy who had Mews on his cardridge. And he was willing to come over to trade with us. My sis and I didn't have our games with us but our mom was kind enough to ride all the way back to Beuningen to get those cardridges so that we could get a Mew. I was so hyped! I trained mine to level 100 asap, but figured out too late that at level 100 I couldn't give it any vitamins anymore, but I could clone my sister's Mew as that one wasn't level 100 yet. Around 2006 I got My Pokémon Ranch on the Wii (I still have that Wii with the game) and that was the first time I got my own Mew (OT: Hayley). Unfortunately Pokémon Bank didn't accept it, so I had to say goodbye to that Mew around 2019 when I decided to replay Black for Pokedex completion. At the end of 2018 I've invested a ton in Pokémon: Switch, Sword and Shield double Pack, both Let's Go games and a Pokéball Plus. I finally had a Mew in Sword and I was so excited. Until the Switch decided not to turn on anymore and I had to switch in the switch. Thing is my Mew was on there, and Pokémon Home was far from released. My mom felt so sorry for me that she bought me a new Pokéball Plus. (Yes, she is the sweetest.) But after a lot of trouble I not only got a new Switch, but a second Pokeball Plus as well, so now I have a Mew from Galar and one from Kanto, since I've connected the other Plus to Let's Go Pikachu. Around 2019 I saw a video on KZbin that thanks to the 2008 event leaks it still was possible to get the events for all gen 4 and 5 games. So now I am the proud owner of a few Mews from back in those days as well. 2019, same year and I've bought a few second hand cardridges with living Pokédexes on it. On Sapphire there was the Mystery Mew and the shiny Japanese Mew. My first shiny Mew! 2020. Shiny Mew event in Pokémon Go. Of course I bought it. As I've stopped playing Go for the moment I still have to get that Mew, but that would be the first shiny Mew with my own OT. I've only finished the Catch a Pokémon 30 Days In A Row part of the quest though. I will transfer this shiny Mew to Home once I have it.

Six flags did a celebi event and I had no clue, but always traveled with my silver version. It was an unbelievable surprise to say the least. They had a whole tent set up with pokemon games and events. I was a dumb kid and peeled the sticker off my cartridge and wondered what the little silver button underneath did. It wiped my game. I searched and reset the game at least 100 times hoping the celebi would show back up in the box like it was when I got it. No luck.

I received 2 Mews from toys r us for my Red and Yellow. I still have the save files on my mega memory card I believe I’d have to check. The game batteries failed so I never put the saved back on the cartridges. I had Pokémon blue also but I’ve reset that game several times. My Pokémon blue still has the OG battery but not the OG save file.

They used one of those blue Super Game Boy SNES terminals. I had one of those multi carts that weren't compatible with the machine so the staff let my brother get two of them and trade one to me. I remember winning a competition to fly from the UK to Japan to get Mew. It coincided with the release of the first pokemon movie in Japan, pretty cool event. 4 days, flight on the ANA pokemon 747, got to see the movie and get mew. Even got our favourite pokemon drawn by one of the movie producers, still got my signed gengar and signed pokemon red cart to this day, but mew went with the battery a few years back now.

Mew event on Coro Coro is actually the reason Pokémon became popular in Japan. Before it was a niche JRPG on a dying console but after that people were starting to buy the game for a chance to get Mew. It still wasn't the phenomenon that it later became for that gotta thank the Anime.

The player would slide his cartridge in a slot which is a flipped upsidedown Gameboy Pocket. Deducted from following evidence. A Super Gameboy 2 player has a linkcable slot on its side, the Super Gameboy border of each machine would either be in red, blue, gold, silver depending on which cartridge would be inserted internally for the destribution from the event cartridge to the players cartridge. The slot that you insert your cartridge in would be either in yellow or green or perhaps even other colors? Matching existing Gameboy Pocket model colors. Super Famicom controller because it was clearly written on the controller.

I took part in the first pokemon league that came around the UK. I got knocked out first round by some guy who they later found out had a been cheating but it was too late. Still got a boulder badge out of it. Anywho, they had Mew machines there. Me, my best friend and his little sister went. We kept sending her back up to get more and ended up with about 8 in total, including our own which we gave out to our friends that didn't get to the event. For a while we were legends in school. But about a month later someone had started mass cloning them and everyone had a Mew.

I was a three of the Toys r Us events. I did not get a mew. But anyway I did get to see one of the GB pockets close up that the Mews had been on. It was a Gameboy pocket silver with a red version in it with silver void tape it had nothing but the Pokémon that had been traded for the Mew. Other then that it seemed to be a normal red version.
