I did this and i must say it is THE BEST. Most in depth, High quality, a TON of material (really its a lot of sounds/musical language to take in and learn from), And you can do it all on your own time. This is perfect for those who can listen and absorb. I have not seen better and believe me i have looked... if i didnt come across Sir Thakkar i would not be where i am right now and i have just started.

For the forthcoming videos in the playlist "Raag Basics on Bansuri", I will change the method of demonstration a little bit. Instead of the typed notations (which takes forever to compose during video editing), I will be alternating between playing the Bansuri & singing the corresponding notes & phrases. That will save me a lot of time to work on more content. Stay tuned for videos with this new method! You will enjoy it and I hope you learn from it as well! Cheers!!

Jay sir who is the Flute maker? all flutes are mindboggling..and behind you , its like Swords...
@musicabstract3 жыл бұрын
The flute I am playing on in this video is made by Subhash Thakur, Punam Flutes, New Delhi. More recently, I use flutes made by Kanti Patel, Mumbai. I hand crafted the flute display visible behind, a couple of years ago.

@musicabstract2 жыл бұрын
True learning of Rāg music lies in trying to decode the notations “on your own” in real time via multiple listening sessions coupled with attempts at playing simultaneously, no matter how long it takes to get a knack for it. Spoon feeding only creates an illusion of learning.

playing with D bass is matter or preference or any other reason for you use D bass flute on quite few videos.... up until now i thought E bass was the only one used for concert level playing.... how would your tunes sounds like if played in E bass?
@musicabstract4 жыл бұрын
I get this a question a lot. D is a matter of preference. I use D most of the time, except for some videos, where I use a C bass. A D or a C bass does better justice to the sonority of Raag music as compared to an E bass, which I find too shrill. That's why I gave up playing on E bass way early in my career after a few concerts. Also, D is better for my voice when I occasionally demonstrate vocally, if I'm playing a vocal composition. E being a standard is a myth, although, there are reasons why this myth is so prevalent. That's a topic of discussion for another day.
