Although I too did cringe at the use of electronics on Shabbat, (since my education taught me that it is a Melacha, a forbidden act/tool on Shabbat,) nonetheless, as someone who was raised Chabad, I was taught that we can disagree with an act and at the same time respect and judge favorably the person, since I do not know if I would have done even half as much good, were I to have been raised in the person’s exact circumstances. That said, it is eminently clear that this Rabbi is an exceptional thinker, with wide ranging knowledge and wisdom, and is not a paid mouthpiece for even those paying his salary. His leadership qualities and free thinking intellectual honesty shines through and earns my admiration. It’s clear to me that history will recognize this Rabbi as one of the giants of our generation, not despite his nerve to speak his heart, but because of it. I pray that the Jewish people be blessed with more such leaders. Amen!
