didn't know it takes luck to know God and why LUCK is part of religion sounds trickery though needs be. Frustrated with Mark: from Christian to atheist to ignostic and the horror of it all. atheist telling me go read Mark 14 verse 50-51 only making Jesus a pedifile they believe. yet, I believed them frustrating me to atheist. But then I read Mark: 14 verses 45- 57 longer incontext! Jesus prays to God to let this Suffering Pass from him but God did not for the admonishment of dying for all sins has to be completed. the complete suffering of Jesus to truly Die in horror for all Man kind. Shocking and I feel the understanding better now of how Jesus really suffered for us. Jesus later Builds a lake of fire for any one who doesn't believe he suffered at all as the unforgivable sin is not Murder rape steeling lying. but, simply not believing with a Skeptical Brain God made for us to know the difference between a scam or trick. do atheist and the Roman empire know Jesus was Flesh of God knowing he has heaven and hell in the grasp of his own Hands and doesn't really care for us said atheist because they think he doesn't exist or did exist but never had any powers doing strange magical things !!! but,after reading Mark 14: 48-53: I feel Jesus did not know' the suffering coming ahead of him when God seeded in to mary' a Good child growing Man with No Sin'. Jesus asked God in the end of his life suffering Why have you GOD' forsaken me? why' leave me alone as if I am like a suffering animal to just perish and never exist again after all this unfathomable Punishment and wicked sin you put me through . really upsets me now for the Good when mommently Jesus awakens me again for it must have Happened. Jesus wants us to believe him but instead we call him a wicked evil pedifile and never healed any one say again the atheist. I better Now see the suffering Jesus went through as a good normal Man made to do all this wickedness . this really hurts but it tells something No Man would dare knowing the guilt and suffering it would couse them and billions might or would Commit suicide commiting such yet they were still sinners that would take the crushing load off also.. I still feel frustrated why millions of inoccent babies Die each year and never stood a chance to live. maybe because the evil of beng born effected what can not be fixed would destroy the tiny seed of faith? any parts of all meaning yet Why God lets it this way today for generations up on Generations. still contradictions of scriptures are proven. may be because his Best Man still is not full or Saint including the Pope for they are not Jesus. yet the Book sometimes opens our eyes but not often enough but to seem like trickery . this is life in hell and the pain of our hearts minds souls feeling the hell of what Jesus went through is a tad Comparing to his suffering maybe ? Possibly the amount of suffering Jesus went through in 1 day would feel like 2000 years of suffering for man which is not fathomable but the Bible is way to long when all Christians incuding my self only know 20% or less of Scriptures and why .. So many wonderful things Jesus said is inspiring yet a must to asure us!!! but, Anecdotal spiritual proof of this hangs on us for over 2000 years... and Science proving the earth has been here millions and not 8-10,000 years is Frustating. Seems like God just play's with us some times and why he used Job like a yo yo bouncing back and forth for no reason but to prove to a Good Man that God is stronger than Job and could put a good man in fire if God wanted. See so much we don't know because we don't get to know is frustrating in its self.. why Harvard or oxford Students who want to become ministers but, after completing the Bible and Book of Romulus with 2 baby brothers drifting down the river in a basket moses was sopposed to sounds like a practice book? they instead become instant atheist accordingly is very upsetting and frustrating. I can't keep asking and begging for Jesus to give me understanding for life when he leaves me hanging more than any other possible thing he could do with full power . how much suffering does a human need to fathom but can't. when the educated intelligent science knowledgable tells me because it keeps getting smarter and us in to faith that carries nothing but, only a mustard seed that Science Proved is not the smallest seed on earth A-MEN.

Three years ago my step dad's Dr gave him 6 months to live, he lasted bout 18 months. I believe all that truly matters is that which will bring us comfort on the death bed - the cultivation of closeness with others and fearless cultivation of our selves. You are right. My step ather was boarded out at the age of 9 yo workforce a farmer. His bed was in the barn with the cows. He had a bed closet to sleep in. My father had to quite school in the 4th grade toward at home in the family dairy. My sister in law became a maid at the age of 13. This was in 1920 to 1950.

My God how old are you if this was in 1920 to 1950? you must be up there!! we suffered early familly life praying and still today my mother sisters fallowers of God died of mistakes of correct denominations or of a God who can't give us the correct one whether it be Seventh say Advantist J WITNESS ,Catholic Prodestant or a lot who call them selves nondenominational but still serve a building called something is still a denominational fact.. None of them are the correct one even when so many say they are is impossible. every body's take 20% of scriptures as there choice being contradictions is all it does. this is the way the USA works with uncountable churches with different names of these Denominations. Let the Creator decide how to fallow it when it decides. Knowing very little of a very very long Bible makes it difficult to know in full complete context. half of the denominational preachers ministers only give a small portion reaping it.

Left the city after 40 years. I'll never forgive these f*ckers for what they have done to the family unit in our country. It's ridiculous that your average man has to go overseas to find a wife, because they have turned western women into a bunch of rabid feminist who hate us. Almost all dating is being done online now, and western women only swipe right on 5% of the men. Honestly, I'd rather fight and die in another civil war, than have to go overseas for a wife. My cousin was very successful professionally, but she had no family. When her mother bragged about her success, my mother told her that she was not a success. She had no husband, no children. Lived in a one bafroom condo in Manhatten. When she finally got married at 48 and with effort, she had a child at 51naturally (what a miracle) she quit that successful career to be a full-time mother and wife. She finally realized what is really important in life

Randomly stumbled on this page. Speaking as a middle age male, single secular that grew up in a divorced family, the Rabbi makes some resonable points that life isn't about Hedonism. And at least on societal level procreation is important because without that obviously humanity would end Without some company life would also be terribly lonely. If the Rabbi has found someone that he's happy with kudos to him. Thought I would offer my two drachmas from a different perspective because i think the Rabbi has a bit of an oversimplified view of the single life which can vary person to person. I am a romantic type. I wanted a family. Not having a significant other sometimes lead to bouts of depression Alas it wasn't in the cards for me. I've had mostly long term relationships. The last woman I was with for seven years. It wasn't passionate love like I experienced once with a girl when I was younger but I thought we were both happy. We lived together. We talked about children but were undecided on the matter. We often talked about how important it was to communicate any problems to prevent any resentments from fermenting.. We would do things together. We rarely argued about anything. Then one day she tells me she's going to leave... tomorrow! Never even did me the courtesy to explain why. I got over it quickly. I felt more stupid for showing poor judgement than angry or hurt. I reasoned someone that would do such a thing so abruptly to another person after so much time treating them with dignity and affection wasn't for me. I have gone on a few dates since then. Although I'll keep trying, it gets harder to meet people you can connect with as you age. it also doesn't help I feel spent emotionally. I've resigned myself to the likelihood I'll probably be single for the rest of my life. Fortunately despite my relationship failures I still manage to experience mostly happiness. A big part of that is my dog. I think of her as I imagine some couple thinks of their toddlers except with a dog they are toddlers their entire lives. I know one day I will have to face life without her. I'm not sure what will happen then but for today I'm happy. Most of my time still goes to immersing myself in my work, my intellectual interests, and online debate. I also make time to spend with my friends, siblings, and relatives. It's difficult to judge for certain someone else's inner life since one can't experience someone else's emotions. Nevertheless, at this precise moment in time, I think I'm happier than most people I have known that are in marriages. There are exceptions, but most of the couples I have known over the years are miserable . I get a sense many are together because they fear being alone. And more often than not couples end up in divorce. It's tough to pin down all the reasons, but I would argue one for so many failed relationships.. unrealistic expectations. We are inundated with images of exceptually beautiful, extremely funny, or highly successful individuals in the media. I think this creates a mindset in many that the other person must conform to some standard of near perfection or one is settling for something that would not make one happy. In other words, many look at the other person as a form of entertainment, for themselves. My dog on the other hand does not provide me wealth. Or intellectual debate. Or sex. Or jokes. Or status. It provides me nothing of utility back. Just it's happiness. A wagging tail and curling by my feet is enough. Knowing my dog is happy, makes me feel great joy. What the experience has taught me is when it comes to happiness what really matters is finding something you feel enough love to nurture.. Where being loved back matters to happiness is in the sense that it's hard to give love to someone else if they don't want your love. So for those that have not found romantic love, my advice would be find something you can still give your love in other ways. Whether that's in the form of a pet, or mentoring someone else's kids, or keeping the elderly company, or charity work, or whatever. Find a way to express your own love for something else even if you don't get anything back other than a genuine smile or just a wagging tail. There is no greater joy I have ever felt in life than knowing something I love enough to nurture is happy just being around me.

As a single person, I agree. The religious are very family orientated, and that's fine, we need it if the human race is to continue to survive. But to my way of thinking, the most important thing is to work on ourselves, to improve ourselves from the inside out! And for that we need to have relationships with others around us, not just humans but other life forms, and with nature in general, with all of life. This is what brings true meaning to life, improving our relationship to life from within and without. marriage is not suppose to be like "oh you married you happy" marriage is about work! and improve and build it together with a long long time. you can't do it alone and you can't do it with your dog. and yeas cause it's a hard work sometimes it's very hard and you not happy, but that's the whole point. that's the truth of everyone. life didn't meant to be easy anyway. if it's easy, it's boring. and we see it everywhere, many people this day are bored out of their mind and looking for something to do with their life

@@mayaha200 I never suffer from boredom. One positive aspect of being single and in good health is you can pursue your interests without worrying about the effects on someone else's life. And I don't mean vacations and entertainment, I mostly mean intellectual and career pursuits. I agree with much of what the Rabbi says but there is nothing someone can do if they cant find someone else that has no interest in loving them back. Where I disagree, he's a bit patronizing towards those that are single by treating them as some stereotype. He also doesn't consider enough how lucky he is to find a wife that wants to be with him. That was not just his decision. It was his wife's too . Had she met someone else first the Rabbi might have ended up with no one. Then he would have been faced with the real world issues being single involves rather than just his theoretical view of being single. The biggest issue is loneliness which if left unchecked can bring on depression which can be incapacitating. When i used to have bouts of depression it was precisely because I treated finding a romantic companion as everything. Whether single or in a relationship, happiness to a certain degree is like food. Too much food is bad for us. The pursuit of happiness shouldn't be the sole focus of life but like a good diet it shouldn't be completely ignored either. Without happiness you have real world negative effects of loss of interest in doing anything including work. That serves no one including oneself. I'm not advising the single life as some ideal. I'm just saying for those that never found a significant other that they don't need to be miserable about it much less bored. As long as someone is reasonably happy, they can still push towards goals. And at least in my case, I found that happiness not through buying frivolous things or paid entertainment but by just finding ways to express love in different ways.

@@kathy1310 Yup. I read a statistic recently that seculars contribute 6 times more in tax to Israeli coffers than the ultra orthodox. Seculars are usually the ones with the high tech startups that power Israel's economy. Not saying this is necessarily the Rabbi or applies to everyone religious, but I think some religious sorts greatly undervalue the contributions of seculars. Being secular doesn't; mean someone is necessarily smarter but it influences how one spends one's time. Einstein was brought up very religious. Had he been studying Torah later in life rather than physics and math it is unlikely we would know his name today.

I've come to understand these truths as well. I had everything: money, an apartment, technology and games galore. I could go to any restaurant and eat anything I wanted at any time. Do you know what happened to me? It became MY TOMB! A prison of my own making that trapped me inside and disconnected me from everyone around me. I was depressed and an empty shell for years like this. It wasn't until I sacrificed all my wealth, that the strength of my soul came into my awareness. Now I see life differently. The problem here is the marriage bias. Not being married doesn’t mean you aren’t an adult or that you can’t be responsible. Outside of that, he’s right. Just the wrong focus. You have to work on yourself, single or married. And he’s right that doing marriage right is hard but doing single right is too. This is true because being an adult is hard in both circumstances. You have to work on yourself either way and realize it’s not about me.

Grown up baby here lol. I'm not religious exactly, but I'm seeking a spiritual path. Like many others in the world, I have a broken traumatic family history and also watched my dad chase women, fast feelings, and the easy life without regard for other people or his family. He's 75 and unhappy, but I feel for him in his lostness. I'm 41, unmarried, and feel like a spiritual baby after listening to this. I want to change my life and engage seriously with the world. I want to do some good before I die and quit chasing things that don't matter. I think I'm going to go see my friend's rabbi in town and ask him how a regular old Joe like me can start living a life of meaning and serving others. Being selfish is no fun lol.

I agree with you, learningisfun. He's right that material wealth and pleasure are too shallow to give life meaning, and he's right that deep family bonds are meaningful, but a life doesn't have to be 100% consumed with one or the other. There can be a balance between the two and don't forget other meaningful pursuits like spirituality, knowledge, creativity, and more.
