Jewish Holocaust survivor, Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, was born on August 17th, 1924, in Żółkiew, Poland, (now Ukraine). "Reb Zalman", which he was commonly called, was one of the founders of the Jewish Renewal Movement, a "transdenominational approach to revitalizing Judaism" that combines aspects of various spiritual traditions.
In his USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Zalman reflects on his childhood, adult life, and career.

I worked for Reb Zalman z"l for several years in the 1980s, before he moved to CO. It's wonderful to hear his testimony.

I am a believer born again Christian. I love this rabbi. Wish our pastors were as loving as this man. I would approach him to get help

Zalman SCHÄCHTER thank you for your BLESSINGS This beautiful man must have had aan amazing memory. His recollection of facts is impressive and he is a good story teller too. Such a progressive Rabbi... And the most important thing is that he has this huge and openminded heart!

Quite so. He is a polyglot, and English is not his mother tongue, yet he speaks it effortlessly and in fully formed-sentences. Few native speakers of English have his facility with the language!

@@ajarnwordsmith628 I had to stop speaking proper English when I moved to this *-sigh-* place. The locals called me a snob. Since I've met so many good people at my church, I can speak well without offending anyone, but I speak slower and *-sigh-* I let the Participles dangle. :)
