The inclusion of Pac-Man 99 footage hits home real hard for me. I was fortunate enough to get flown out to PAX East last year to participate in the Pac-Man 99 event Bandai Namco was hosting, and when they announced they were pulling the plug only a few short months later, it hit the whole community like a freight train. Met plenty of fantastic individuals thanks to the game, so to have the online lobbies taken away was rough.

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring: Atlas Reactor. It was SUCH a unique game (basically pvp XCOM style combat but everyone takes their turn at the same time then watches the chaos. with unique/fun characters with their own powers/personalities a la overwatch, league, etc) and there is NOTHING else like it out there. The downside? it had a small playerbase. literally so small that multiple people recognized other players by names MANY MANY times. That's why it eventually shut down. They couldn't, financially, support keeping the servers up with how small of a playerbase it was. But man it was SO fun and I miss it SO MUCH. They tried to pseudo-revive it with Atlas Rogues (a Roguelike) but due to tons of salty Reactor vets just raging at it not being a re-release of Reactor (Despite the devs saying MULTIPLE times that they wanted reactor back too and THIS was the only chance they had to show the People With The Money (tm) that there was interest in the Atlas Reactor IP...) and couldnt focus on ANYTHNIG else so they review bombed it with false information on steam and got their funding gutted and eventually rogues got cancelled. Despite the positive feedback from those who actually spoke with devs, hung out in the discord server, and actually played the beta releases of the game. The devs were obviously very passionate about wanting to make this work and cared a lot about the community and toxic salty fans just...ruined it. (an example of lies in the review bombs: they claimed the devs didnt care and werent listening to fans. despite multiple patches being nearly 90% FAN-SUGGESTED CHANGES.) the worst part? because it was so unpopular, I can't even easily look up old youtube videos to sorta 'relive' the old times. What few ARE there are...mediocre at best and the ones playing it were uh...very bad. so I cant even show friends "oh this character was cool" because I cant find videos of that character being played and played at least half decently. sorry, long rant but...yea. Atlas Reactor was a great game that you cant play anymore :(

Honestly, while the initial marketing for Knockout City didn't do itself any favours, it was a genuinely fun game and one of the few live-service PvP games I played a fair amount of. A shame it ended up going under, but the devs at least left the PC version compatible with privately-hosted servers, so players who had it on PC before it got delisted can continue playing the game in some form.

I remember being in college and looking for SOMETHING to do and do quickly when I'm between classes. Sure I had a GBA and DS, but I didn't always want to dedicate a large portion of time, or have to hunt for a save spot if necessary if I needed to rush to class. I remember trying "FF All the Bravest" and thinking, "Square made this? This is ass. There's no thought or complexity, I just swipe mindlessly." Then I found "FF Record Keeper" and stuck with that for like 7 years. ... until they closed the servers down..... only ever spent $15 bucks on the game because I happened to have the cash and felt the game was worth supporting. Of course... that mentality is probably why they closed the game down Globally. We weren't profitable enough for them compared to the Japanese servers which are still operational.

This is why it was a massive mistake for these game devs to THINK that an always online and ONLY ONLINE game would be a good thing. Becuase of just how volatile the market is... They wasted millions or who knows how much money... On TRASH games nobody asked for.. When they could have done somethign ACTUALY good.. Single player.. OFFLINE.. Games that people would remember.... maybe not the year they released it.. but a year or two later. But they cant. Since they make online only games. Multiplayer shooters that are copy paste of thousands of other games. Thinking they are special with their take.. And then end up crying... As people laugh at them for being massive failures.

The funny thing is that your rant does not apply to Evolve at all. The game, by design, only works as a multiplayer game. And it was extremely innovative, being an asymmetrical 1 vs 4 rather than copying the CoD/Overwatch/PUBG formula like everyone else did. The BIG mistake was not releasing the server tools to the player base. Someone could've set up a matchmaking server for P2P in their attic and the game would still be playable, entirely without 2K's involvement.

What a true boomer you are. A physical copy won't help you play Evolve. The problem with always-online games is that once the servers get shut down, even with a physical copy you will not be able to play them anymore. The only way forward is to force publishers to release the server tools to the player base so we can set up our own servers and aren't at the publisher's mercy. Or in the case of EA, give players the option to rent servers from a third party service. Battlefield 3 and 4 can still be played over a decade after their releases because players keep renting servers for them. With or without physical copies. Also, technically, a game downloaded to your HDD/SSD is a physical copy. A CD or bluray disk is not any more physical than an HDD or SSD.

Kinda surprised with how long it's taking TPC to do anything outside of "closely monitoring the situation" with Palworld when it was revealed they straight up ripped 3D models from Pokemon and adjusted them. And no, just cause the person that found out adjusted the size of the models does not mean they're totally different. That's like saying I can draw a picture of Modern Mickey Mouse but really small and then call it my own character.
@FelisImpurrator9 ай бұрын
Ah yes, because "internet sleuths" know better than Japanese copyright lawyers. The answer is that they won't do anything because even by the absurdly strict rules of Japanese copyright law, where fair use does not exist, Palworld... is in the clear. Time to get over it. The Pokemon Company certainly has. They were trying to tell you little weirdos "stop emailing us and move on".
@ThisIsCSDX9 ай бұрын
@@FelisImpurrator I never said I was a sleuth of anything, nor have I emailed any company about it cause I don't feel threatened by Palworld like you do about Pokemon. @@ThisIsCSDX Love how you managed to make up an entire narrative in your head that doesn't correspond to anything I said. Peak projection. I was referring to the rando on twitter who claimed the models were stolen, and the fact that you actually trust what they say for some reason. It's just someone playing internet detective for drama, and you're taking it seriously. That's the problem. And the point is, "we are monitoring the situation" is corporate speak for "we know it exists, it's not our problem, stop emailing us" as a general statement. You seem to have conveniently chosen to interpret this as a personal statement about you so you could take it a different way and make up this character for me in your head. The fragility is coming from inside the house, methinks. No, there's no proof they stole anything. No, TPC is probably not going to do anything about it. You know what you should do about this non-issue? Stop caring. I don't. I just think it's ridiculous for people like you to be trying to keep dead internet drama relevant past its sell-by date, that's all. It's not about me being "threatened by Pokemon" (Literally how? I don't own stock in Pocketpair and I don't work for them. Pretty sure I couldn't even if I wanted to. What does that even mean?) so much as not liking your brand of parasocial teamsports. The short version is: Nintendo doesn't care about Palworld and it doesn't care about you. They're doing their own thing (which looks cool), and Pocketpair is doing its own thing (which is also cool). There are no real sides. Just a bunch of little internet weirdos who desperately want this to be some kind of Keemstar beef.
