I had a disabled rabbit with a deformed jaw who was found out in nature with a tooth growing into his face. Even after it was removed, he couldn't chew with his remaining front teeth or clean himself properly. His bonded bunny friend cleaned his face and I cleaned his butt. I also had to chop up all his veggies really small and trim his remaining teeth regularly. He also loved to "chew" on my fingers with his bare gums. He lived a long, happy life despite his disability.

SEEING THESE POOR RABBITS IN THIS TERRIBLE CONDITION IS HEARTBREAKING AND IMO IT'S CRUEL TO KEEP THEM ALIVE!! What quality of life do they have? Do you really think they enjoy laying in their own feces and urine every day? Rabbits have very thin and delicate skin, so think of the painful sores and infections that can cause!! Do you think they enjoy being washed, laid on their backs, and being pulled about every day? They're also at risk of FLYSTRIKE. What FUN are these rabbits having? Neither of them look happy to me and it would be a HUGE KINDNESS having them put to sleep. We had one of our beloved rabbits put to sleep two months ago, it broke out hearts but knew it was the right and the kindest thing we could do.

For cats and dogs with legs like that, they bind their legs together in the correct position and it enables them to get around and develop muscular strength to finally be able to hold their legs straight and get around.

Yeah I think the kitten lady has a video where she treats a "swimmer" kitten. The very first google search I did for "splay leg rabbit" suggests that bandaging their legs can help if they're young, so I'm not sure why the person in this video says there's no treatment options. She does say "sometimes they can get braces made" but doesn't go into it, and apparently she doesn't seem to be taking that as an option for these bunnies.

Depending on how long their like that.. or if they were born .. it could be impossible to bind them. And the splayed legs could be related to being inbred?? Or something happened to mom while they were in the womb. I rescued a disabled kit she couldn't use one of her back legs, after exam it was discovered to be an injury from womb or right after birth.. nothing could be done.. it was spine related. She could feel her leg and would twitch her toes.. she lived in the house with another bun a disabled buck, he had been attacked by a dog 3 years ago and had lil control of his back legs.. this happened 20 years ago , so a cart for him wasn't a option. But while he couldn't move his back legs he could still hop. So they lived together.. the young doe got quite big some giant was in her. Around her 3yrs she was experiencing pain and was refusing to move, and the buck was 6 at this time experiencing the issues but arthritis set in to his spine affecting his front legs. Because they didn't have options back then and we're clearly in pain, we put them to sleep together.. she was like a daughter to him. I was in middle school then, I'm a middle aged woman now.. and I still remember them being so playful and sweet. We took them for rides in the car with us. They would sit with me in the back seat looking out the windows at all the green. It was due to them, being a kid feeling like I could've done more.. even thou nothing me or my bunny smart parents could do, multiple vets/visits for both. As a adult I rescued a bun that last his foot and bottom of his leg to a dog. He was dumped at a private dog rescued.. the injury happened the owner came out to find/save him. But no one would take him after that. We came with donations, she asked if we would be interested in a dog because we brought 200.00 worth of supplies. I laughed and said no dogs.. I have bunnies at home.. well ❤️‍🩹 I went home with a "free" bun that day.. such a sweetie we named him cotton. He passed of a heart attack 4 yrs later at age of 5.

Lorelei, this video made me cry. Buns like them definitely need more attention, but their lives are precious like any other bunny. As a person who is disabled and have spinal deformity, if they were my bunnies I would fight with my teeth for their life. I don't get why this person, who knows that can end up with disabled baby bunnies won't just spay or neuter their buns. It's expensive, but you are responsible for any animal you have, people should consider it before they get a pet. I have really strong opinion about it, but there are words that I better save for myself.

My brother became disabled as an adult and he constantly compares himself to what he used to be, as we live in a society that values the most superficial things about human beings. I've seen owners of disabled animals use them to educate people. Children in particular can identify with a cute bunny and hopefully grow up learning to respect everyone regardless of disability. Unfortunately we live in a time when life is treated as disposable. As you said, look how irresponsible people are with their pets - then consider that many are just as bad with their children. There are too many hypocrites out there that call this progress.

@@elisaastorino2881 I agree with you. There's not much that makes me angry more than irresponsible people. But people often forget about it.

Wheelchairs can actually work really well for these types of bunnies. As it takes the weight of their limbs and they then only need a little bit of movement to get around. Physio can also really help to build up their muscles to keep the joints in place. You can tie a loop of scarf around their back, so it surport and lifts their bum. Then lift it just enough that they can put their paws on the ground. Let them walk around like this as you surport them once a day, building up over time, and they'll slowly gain the muscle they need to move better on their own.

I tend to specialize in chickens, but they can have the same issue. It's either genetic or flooring based, and in chickens it's corrected with a cast they wear for a few days. I didn't know that this could also happen in bunnies, I thought it was mostly a bird problem!

I can only confirm your words. Caused by an autoimmune disease I suffer from polyneuropathy and small Fibre neuropathy, and additional hereditary athrosis in my knees. I can't walk without crutches and I am sometimes bullied for that reason. I don't think disabled animals want to be euthanized, so who am I to judge if their life is worth living? I've had a black rabbit named Rutabaga since early 2017 when my mom found him on the road, laying down. Someone shot a pellet into the back of his spine because rabbits were eating in his garden, and he just left the bunny to suffer. He's still going 5 years later, in a similar laying position to these wabbits. He has an older albino brother, Roger, who looks after him, and he'll soon have a pillow for his back. Thank you for that information. It really helps and I'm excited to make him more comfy after so long. :)

Awwwww omg those babies...😭 My baby bun is disabled from the front legs but she is so lovely and lively. I am so glad those cute fluffity babies are getting a chance to live. As always, thank you for doing so much!! And for cleaning the butt, you can give them almost regular butt baths to keep the butt cleaner and dont try to clean everything at once. Over regular baths (with bunny shampoo to remove the pee), the tangled hard fur will soften and will either fall off or the poop will soften and get pulled off easier. Also I saw when you bathed them that the skin is quite reddened from the poop and pee, so you can rub a little bit of fungal creams like Candiderm to help a little. It will help the skin heal faster (from my own experience though) And overall, it's better to keep the hair/fur around the butt short. Carefully shaving from the stomach down till the butt ends will make it easier to keep the butt dry instead of getting drenched in pee and them having to stay with a wet butt until the next bath. I wish I could adopt those babies and take care of them forever 😭 Also thank you for buying those neck pillows for them. They looked like they felt comfortable getting surrounded bt that soft pillow. Not to be a know-it-all but just another tip. What you could do is adding like an actual bedding for them. Like an old comforter would be really nice, just tearing it up in 4~8 pieces depending on the size needed and then adding some absorbant towels on top that can be re-washed to absorb the pee and keep the comforter clean. It's essentially just meant to relieve some of the weight and pressure and esp as they get older and heavier. Putting them on a comforter and seeing them sink down on it but being way more comfy than on the hard floor would be a relieving feeling haha. My bunny has a dog/cat bed with a comforter (cut in 4 and then folded up) alongside some fluffy towels and then 2 absorbant towel on top (like the ones you use to bath that I cut up too in pieces). Even when she pees a lot, the pee does not usually go farther than 3 towels. I clean her up everyday, at least 3 times or everytime she pees/poop but I only clean the first 2 towels while the comforter gets changed every 1 or 2 weeks. She can't reach back at all so she also does not eat her poops since she has gotten paralysed from the front and I do sometimes give her the soft poops to eat up, other times, I don't and she seems to be doing quite ok without them for now. And for my bunny, she still has use of her back legs but she cant even sit on both legs as she gets sore socks or just falls down on one side completely so its my habit to shift her from the right to the left day by day so she doesnt crush one side only. So maybe with those bunnies too, could try putting them down on the sides (altho if the splayed legs can be flexible enough to bend to the sides) to make them get off their stomach and neck sometimes and relieve pressure. Another great thing is also grabbing them and walking around with them. Holding their body up for then instead of them having to do the work while also walking for them and showing them around and getting them in the sun makes them much more happier and involved and they glow a lot more after those trips 🥺🥰 As those bunnies are also more fragile and sometimes find it hard to keep their head up and eat etc, I also invest in critical care to feed them other than just hay/grass/pellets but that's not an option for everyone I know so just a suggestion. But mine does not eat her soft dark poops so I do tend to give her hay/grass/pellets alongside additional fruits and salads and treats almost everyday, way more than a normal healthy bunny needs (critical care is given when she gets tired of eating or her mouth is sore or she is sick or she has been in too much of an uncomfortable position to eat by herself etc). If I don't feed her fruits like kiwis, apples, bananas or salads like lettuce, parsley, bok choy, she loses weight fast. Just a handful/a bowl per day seems to be enough for my 3 kg bunny (who used to be 5 kg but has gone down since she got paralysed) while her other foods like grass/hay are constant/unlimited throughout the day. I do also give her additional serum once every 2 days or when i think she needs some extra water/energy. Serum is made by adding 1.5 teaspoons of sugar in around 150ml of water and then adding barely 2 or 3 drops of salt just a tinyyyy pinch and then mixing and giving her. I also sometimes give her the serum after I give her the monthly worm medication to get the bad taste out. She reallly loves drinking serum but as sugar us not good for bunnies, do not overfeed them that, just whenever you think your bunny is a little groggy or lethargic. Sorry for the rambling but I have my bunny who has splayed front legs and it's sad to hear about others getting euthanised for something like this and I want to hopefully help a little in something by sharing my experience. Bunnies with disabilities also deserve a chance. They deserve all the love and attention and care. A pet is not a decoration. It's a life who needs to be taken care of and if you get a bunny or any pet for that matter of fact, you have to accept to look after them, no matter in what condition they are in. Please be wise and ready before getting a pet and give those babies as best a life as possible ❤❤ Also the two babies here, I hope they can be adopted by someone who has the means and time to look after them...I really wish I could but I live so far away. Gosh, please anyone who is able to, please help out 😭❤ Edit:I forgot to add... idk about hereditary/birth splayed legs but I also do have to regularly massage and like exercise my bunnies front legs so they don't get stiff...so that is something to look into as well. Some physical exercise/theraphy could probably help their joints a bit especially because they are able to stretch out their fingers etc 😭 Good luck with this! Thank you as always for trying to do so much depsite the fact it probably breaks your heart to see those poor babies being so undeserving of anything bad and yet being paralysed like this. Sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and live in bliss that all animals/pets are being treated right but doing that does not help. Even if my mental moods change drastically, I also try to be active in the pet community to be aware and to try and help out at least one life instead of living in my own ignorant bliss. Sorry about the sudden rant, but it's just I am so thankful to you doing those things and helping out Lorelei 😭❤ (Love seeing Lennon being so chill haha, the cutie pie 🥰❤)

Also I forgot to mention but I completely avoid water bowls cuz they are dangerous and the buns can choke if they suddenly fall and can no longer support their neck etc so I syringe feed them water daily. I bought a 60 ml syringe because they do need a lot of water but the bigger the syringe is, the more water it contains and the easier it is for them to choke up as well so be sure to do it slowly and carefully when giving them the water by pushing the syringe barely at all. Or holding them up under the arms, being careful not to push against their chest too hard and preventing them from breathing or pressing too hard against their arms, one can hold a water bowl under their mouth so they drink more comfortably than them having to hold themselves up to try and get a desperate bit of water and risking falling into the bowl. If I think of anything else I will add them...

I went to a pet store last night, the one where I got my mini holland lop, & I was in shock. They had 2 separate open top glass living areas with at least 10 or more in each section. Usually the bunnies are shy & sleepy but this time when I put my hand in, they all ran to me & one tried chewing my bracelet ( it’s string & resembles hay). After further inspection, neither section had any hay nor did they have pellets, & their water was grossly filled with bedding & feces. They had poop in their hair, it was awful. Immediately my husband went to an associate as I found the almost empty hay bin & started giving them hay. They all literally jumped on it pushing & shoving each other to get some. It was so sad. The worker eventually came over & filled the pellets for one group & I had to split it between the second group of bunnies. I am livid. They need to be reported or something for how they take care of these bunnies. Needless to say, before I left, almost every bunny had a full belly & were laying down content.

This is so sad but these rabbits can live a happy bun life! I know of a severely disabled rabbit named Jon Snow. He looks like he is in bad condition but when his mom pets him he loves it. He loves treats. He loves to eat hay. He can't move without help but yet I could see in his eyes he was happy. Thank ya'll and the foster bunmom for saving these babies. Great fundraiser!

At the rescue I volunteer with we have two splayed legged. The rescue owner bonded them with a abled bun so that she should help keep them clean. Of course they are now all old, so the rescue owner has to do it again, but it's possible. Oh, and there is another way they can become splayed... Improper handling, like a kid picking up bins by the legs, can cause it. One of ours happened that way sadly.

Thanks for the thoughtful care! A couple of nitpicky points: 1) Bunnies don't usually like being picked up and held high in the air as you're doing with them. It reminds them instinctively of predator behaviour so it causes considerable stress; 2) Bunnies have extremely sensitive digestive systems so it's not recommended that you touch their food unless you've washed your hands thoroughly. Better to use a measuring cup, tongs or some other implement to protect them from the tremendous amount of bacteria on our hands. Thanks again to bunny rescuers everywhere!

Ok, i'll be the negative one because it has to be said... what quality of life can these babies really have? As a bunny owner myself, i can not imagine my bunnies never being able to hop around or do zoomies, heck these poor souls can barely move themselves around! I see nothing but suffering for these poor guys and although i can and do appreciate the huge amount of empathy that's being shown here by Lorelli and Vicki i can't help but feel like these bunnies shouldn't have to suffer a life like this because they literally can't do anything that comes instinctively to them... Maybe i'm wrong, i hope i am.

I understand what you are saying and I can respect what you are saying. We do not euthanize humans that are in the same situation. And I feel like that if they are here with us and someone will really provide and love them then life is worth it. But I really mean that somebody who is going to provide for them and give them every single thing that the law would require that from a human to give to another human in this situation.

He was a case of illegal breeding/ street breeding as I like to call it. sadly he was born special needs but not only do I take care of him my other bunnies do. Especially Lola she will clean him and it really helps him and also it probably dose not hurt him as much. Just had to share a little story.😊

Vicki and Lorelei are so caring to raise bunnies like these. It's sad that they have a condition like this. They'll never be able to hop and do binkies or zoomies. But they are beautiful and special in their own way. It requires someone with a really good heart to take care of special needs bunnies like these. I had a bunny once that developed this condition in it's hind legs after 3 months and I had to clean its rear end a few times a day. Sadly it did not live a full life but we bonded more closely than any other rabbit I've cared for. Because their mobility is limited, they can stay by your side for long periods of time.

You've helped me so much with my bunnies I can't even explain. Although they've chewed so much to the point where my parents don't want them in the house, they're gonna live outside now. As much as I don't want it we're gonna do the most to make it safe for them. I got a hutch for them to go into and connected a very big xpen to it which will be protected over the top, so they can run around whenever:) we got some warm blankets and toys and treats and a fluffy big heat pad for when it gets chilly, and I'll make sure to continue to treat them very well. I just wanna say if I never watched your channel they'd definitely still be in a tiny cage with a bad litter box, somewhere in my house. But they're happier and healthy now! I am hoping to get my second bunny fixed soon. They're currently living in their big xpen in the garage and it's a good setup we're just switching them outside and adding a hutch for extra safety! If you have any tips I'd LOVE some.

They are amazing. Thank you to all the help you do and the rescues! I took in a litter of bunnies in NY rescue a while back that were from a bad situation. One of them had hind splayed legs. Not nearly as bad as these babies but my vet suggested coming up with something to keep her back legs in a proper position. I did crochet a piece that worked quite well and it did help her up until the sad day she passed. Unfortunately all except 1 baby ended up passing. A lot of then had some genetic teeth issues going on and we did all we could to save them but it wasn't enough.

I have a very elderly rabbit named Petey who is 15 and a half - I'm amazed he has lived this long and I've had him from the time he was a young bun. He had a bad foot break last year and I had to make a choice to amputate his foot or euthanasia. It was so tough but I decided to give the surgery a chance because even though he's old, he was still quite strong and healthy. He came through the amputation and with lots of care and time he is doing really well. I clean him up & remove any dry poop he can't get to, make sure he's comfy and can reach all his food/water/etc. He's still such a happy old bun, loves attention and eats really well - I'll care for him til the end whenever he's ready to go, he's been with me for so long :) It's great to see you bringing attention to these special needs bunnies!! I love what you do BUT this is such a sensitive thing. I would really have wanted a veterinarians word in this video just for other people to understand that you should ALWAYS take the bunnies to a veterinarian to decide what's best for the bunnies. Never ever think you should rescue a bunny or any other animal that haven't been visiting a veterinarian first. There's a line rather you want it or not but never let any animal suffer. Just wanted to point it out for the animals best. I don't wanna be that one who "always finds something bad". I just want people to take responsibility whatever that responsibility is in that case. ❤️ Thank you all bunnylovers who understands this ❤️
