Going forward, I see this tech evolving to where large software providers build repositories of large action models for all major apps on the market and keep them up to date by having AI agents click around each new app release screens and buttons and thus keeping the LAM updated at all times with all the new functionalities these apps add with each new release. Better yet, it may become standard industry practice for each app to also release its correspondent LAM so it can better integrate with large LAM repositories and user devices. Then a consumer device would just either keep the latest LAM locally or call an API to the cloud LAM repository for whatever action they're asking for. I can totally see a future where an app without its own LAM API endpoints released for integration purposes is not even accepted on app stores anymore.

i think the dumbest and saddest part to this whole thing is that Apple and Android are just going to make their own just on their own OS... id presume the difference might be on the outlook of how the tasks are actually done in the background ( or perhaps foreground if you just overlay the idea into iOS or android)

The rabbit is explicitly designed to be able to do almost exactly everything that modern anti-virus software and security is explicitly designed to prevent other software from being able to do. Thus, it either has to be a standalone device or integrated directly into the OS to be practical. What it can never do is be a downloadable app that actually does what it is supposed to do. Thus it will never be a downloadable app without being nerfed to death. The Rabbit has, as its central feature, the potential ability to open your banking app/website, pretend to be you, and transfer money to a different account, with minimal interaction or knowledge from you, hopefully on your instruction. But that amount of power is not something which iOS or Android allows you, even as an owner, to grant to other software.

Payment from a credit card to a pre-authorized business for purchases (restaurant, gasoline) is one thing. Pre-authorizing a device or software to arbitrarily control your bank account is just about the worst possible idea, for so many reasons, and I’m pretty sure legislation will become involved for that case. I’m also quite certain a LOT of people will do exactly this, even will subvert guards against it, and then will get seriously burned somehow.

Already ordered one. Excited to see what I can do with it. At 200 bucks, it made the trigger easy to pull, if it ends up being a paperweight in a few years, well, I've got a few more expensive paperweights around. What I'm really interested in is hackability and customizability. I won't be using this thing to order stuff for me (I don't have that level of trust in AI just yet) but there's still plenty of routines I'm excited to teach it for my regular daily workflows (and uh, life flows).

@@lilmafya yep, I run a lot of different scripts and services constantly throughout the day, and often times will run training on things overnight. Being able to automate some of the tasks like preparing training datasets, starting up services and applications even when I'm not around, and just automating some of the workflows across multiple applications. Kinda hard to describe, but I write a lot of my own code I work with, and have a lot of purpose-built pieces to my pipeline. Stuff like this where I can be out and about and ask it to check the status of a training job, and if it's finished, rack up the next set and kick it off without me having to sit down and remote in and do it myself is pretty cool.

Right. I see it as a new way to interface with a computer really. Just like how the invention of the GUI didn't make the CLI totally obsolete, even though GUI's are basically the standard now - CLI is still incredibly useful and has certain advantages over GUi. This new method is like an AI-UI. Or more so VUI (vocal user interface). It's not just a voice controller stapled onto a GUI (which is how voice control works on current phones and computers). The Rabbit is built entirely around the voice control from the ground up. It's genuinely a new way to interface with a computer. And yeah, it'll probably be a bit scuffed. But it's a first proof of concept, and surely will inspire competitors to innovate on the concept.

@brianmi40
@brianmi40 9 ай бұрын
@@muzzy2007 I have used a number of Windows macro programs to script things through the years. I expect it will work the same, learn where to click on the screen as you build the script, and, much like MoonDream did for Open Interpreter, be able to scrape and "understand" any screen content using an optimized model to do that, including OCR to "see" or grab any text. My only concern is their mentioning some hint of limitations to which apps it may support: for them to support an app, they MAY have to have it themselves, dunno. Otherwise it has to ship the screenshots to them for the screen recognition to work with, which isn't unreasonable, but the statement was curious to me. But can't wait to see and of course it's a great plan for them to have a Store where scripts are sold, that should help drive adoption and more programs supported. But we have tons of ways to control Windows apps via automation as Macro tools have done for decades now. I run Bitwig, Reason and Waveform, but I'm not thinking there's necessarily anything in there that really is a fit for the R1. If you just want to script a bunch of steps in a DAW, I would just research Win Macro programs and then you can assign a custom key combo to execute them. Without AI and something like Moondream in play, they will be position dependent, so record and use the same; likely full screen and VSTs in the script would have to play by those rules also for mouse clicks to work correctly. The R1 is more intended to script things you can do via voice on the go, not sitting in front of your computer. Open Interpreter would also be a better fit to automate some DAW stuff, and with what it's AI "could know", might just be able to do quite a bit from a simple voice command, no training... (zero shot). But until they get an app, it's a Python environment to do it all which isn't welcoming to all.

Not a fan that R1 is marrying to a subscription-based input model. The "no subscription" promise of the Rabbit CEO was one of the strongest promotional tactics, which will now be undercut by this partnership. The reality is that people who use Perplexity for 1 year will become accustomed to that interaction, and once the subscription ends, will likely feel like they need to renew or they'd be losing something. Temp subscription sales tactics are a really shitty way that many companies get people to subscribe that otherwise probably wouldn't have. Can I also just point out that Perplexity is taking us backwards by requiring more precision-based search expectations. Who wants to have to explain what you mean with every search... blah

Secondly, as demo'd it DOES NOT store the password, it is granted access, just like when you log into a new Web site using your Google ID as what will get you in. Those web sites DO NOT get your google credentials to authenticate you, google just KNOWS you want access there, and tells THEM it's ok to log you in.

People who want an AI device like the R1 now, dont care about what Microsoft or google or android devices might hypothetical do in the future, when the R1 already exists and can do those things now. Its the difference between "might" and "can" that sets those 2 things apart. I see the R1 like the ipod in 2001, people carried an ipod around because their phones couldnt do what an ipod could at the time. You could either sit around and wait for phones to have ipod features in another 6 years (iphone release date) or just have an ipod lol I personally am not buying an R1 at the moment because i dont need access to AI enough in my daily life to warrent it, but that doesnt mean people shouldn't buy one if the use fits their needs.

The overall concept reminds me Skyrim mods implementing AI to chat with NPCs and an actual command to do an action in game from the AI. To me the attraction is the LAM technology that can be trained to act in applications as the user. I hope they implement and focus on the LAM experience as the chat function by itself is not their competitive advantage.

I thought about it after preordering it. I believe "transhumanism" will soon become more and more a thing. Combine 2 already available devices to the rabbit r1. A subvocal recognition patch on the neck and a pair of bluetooth cochlear implants (like Deus Ex game) but they both exists, google it! So, you could basically read what you wanna say in your mind, because it seems lately they discovered that internal monologue has a "voice" a can be detected and analyzed with muscle impulses. You think "out loud" : "Call John, ask him him he prefers a view on the lake or the mountains, and book a room with his final decision. You don't have to show me his answer it's gonna be a surprise for me" - "perfect, i'll book it and only let you know the departure time" (sent to the bluetooth cochlear). Now, we only need a optical nerve sortof mind eye projector as we already have the reverse, cameras.. iRobot 😀

@@Conker32192 Not even close. To build this into the low level OS to take control over and automate EVERY APP written by a MILLION developers using various app creation tools would be an IMMENSE EFFORT, to say nothing of the SECURITY RISKS if a single exploit gets missed and you just gave EVERY HACKER ON THE PLANET ACCESS TO THE ENTIRE PHONE and may have BANKRUPTED YOUR COMPANY or utterly destroyed your market share as everyone TOSSES it to buy a safe phone that same day, assuming there's anything left on their credit card or bank balance to do so. And you still need the desktop app to BUILD the scripts because no one wants to spend 5 minutes scrolling, pinching and zooming on their phone only to make a mistake and have to figure out how to troubleshoot it. And then it STILL doesn't work with desktop apps like this without YET ANOTHER OS TOOL BUILT FOR both WINDOWS and LINUX and APPLE PCs, oh yeah, and a it has to work with any WEB, so they have to tweak the browsers, or force everyone to a standard browser. LOL, done much development have you? 2-4 years MINIMUM and that's IF they would light a FIRE under it as an initiative and hire like crazy before they even start TESTING for security risks. This was 10 YEARS in development and contains NONE OF THOSE RISKS. Try to understand it ALWAYS WAS and IS going to use Perplexity, standard version, long before this "deal" showed up. This is just a joint marketing deal: users get free Pro for a year, Perplexity gets a bunch of users getting used to their tool and many will just choose to continue and pay afterwards (those for which money doesn't matter much at $20/mo. and just want the "best" so will "stay with what works already for the device"). There's NOTHING in this design that REQUIRES a more advanced LLM like PRO. Otherwise their initial design would have been a FAILURE from the get go. No ones' going to use this to write a novel or debate the meaning of the universe for hours. All the Portal needs is BASIC LLM capabilities to scrape text off a screen OCR and understand it, understand some very basic commands and execute them across some apps. Easy Peasy for ANY hosted LLM these days. Install Perplexity in Chrome and it's right there to use on any Web, even summarizing the page you're on in 1 click. Works FANTASTIC and it'll calm your nerves. Try opening Google Scholar, search for any published research papers and have it summarized for you in plain english in 1 click. Awesome. R1's needs for AI are likely so LOW, you could make it work with a local LLM. Perplexity is PLENTY and Pro is just a marketing deal.

Maybe in a few years another device like this could use a miniaturized version of the tech Arnav Kapur has figured out? His tech is a headworn device that "hears" your silent thinking words. So maybe a system can be built with this tech to verbalized into a device like the rabbit r1, so in effect it would be like "thinking" about your search or action queries only in you own head/brain!
