Melissa , thank you for the well wishes! So glad it’s behind us! Honestly I hadn’t planned on doing it again - we had a great experience adopting from our humane society in the past who has them all spayed/neutered prior to adoption. But life doesn’t always work out as planned and I couldn’t ignore a bun in need! 🤗

I'm getting my bunny spayed a week and a half from now. I'm extremely nervous but I've tried my best to prepare (on a budget) I've gotten a low side litter box, blanket, pee pads, and a mat at dollar tree. I have some other blankets and soft things for her. I love my bunny so much so please wish us luck!

Thanks for posting this. My two are going in next week for their spaying and I'm really anxious. They're going to a 24 hour care vet hospital and will be kept in over night, which makes me feel a bit better about it. I'm just fortunate that I live only a 10 minute drive from a specialist vet.

Vicky Mc As long as you have a really great rabbit savvy vet should be no issues. I have experience with post-op care and they still sent me home with two pages of instructions and called me every day for the first couple of days to ensure everything was going well. I would not ever spay or neuter again. I lost my baby bc of it. It’s rare but small animals do not do good under anesthesia. When I rushed mine in to the emergency they said who ever did it made the incision to high and they never would have done it that way. So definitely ask how they will do this surgery and get all your info if you do. Sadly even the emergency pet place has no care for small animals like they do for dogs and cats. This world makes me so sad. N yet it makes me want to go to school and become a small animal vet so I can help all small animals with the love and care they should get. So all the bad that has happened to my baby is pushing me in the right direction for these guys. So I’ll pray yours recovers good and what happened to mine dosnt happen to yours. 🙏
@BudgetBunny3 жыл бұрын
I am so terribly sorry to hear that you had such a sad experience. 😰 Yes rabbits are more sensitive to anaesthesia so it is definitely vital that rabbit parents see a skilled exotics vet who is experienced with small animals. I have been seeing my exotic vet for almost 15 years and he has done all of the spays and neuters for our rabbits with absolutely no issues. Carina was spayed almost a year ago now and is now enjoying life with a neutered male. Sending big hugs, it’s devastating losing such a sweet and special furry family member. ❤️

Thank you! I got her spayed yesterday and she’s very lethargic she’s not eating and not drinking it’s been hmm 20 hours without anything so this morning I gave her Medicine and she drank that fine cause it was a syringe also after that I forced her to eat like I grabbed a pellet and tried to put it in her mouth but nope she didn’t let me :/ she’s not even eating her hay
@Samahahassan4 жыл бұрын
Also I thought that it would be nice if her daughter saw her mom so I brought her and she ignored her mom and started biting her and that was scary so I immediately grabbed her and put her away... I really don’t know what’s going to happen now they were so close but now the daughter hates her mom.... idk :(
@BudgetBunny4 жыл бұрын
Bxnbunn Ok getting her going again is crucial right now. If her system shuts down she could die. I’m assuming the meds you gave her were pain killers? Did they send you home with any critical care and a feeding syringe - they have a larger opening for the food? Or can you call your vet and pick some up ASAP? You’ll need to at the very least syringe her some water. Critical care is the best to have on hand but you can also make a quick substitute before you get some of soaking some pellets in water until they’re soft and then force feeding that.
@BudgetBunny4 жыл бұрын
Bxnbunn Also they have to stay separate right now especially if the baby was still trying to nurse as she cannot he near the incision. You could however set them up in adjacent pens so they can at least see one another. ❤️

How long was your bun on pain meds after her spay?
@asmawadihah53172 жыл бұрын
I'm so scared about getting my bunny spayed because I live in a small town and we have only just two veterinary clinics here. So, I asked the private one if the clinic do spay bunny and they said they got a doctor who can do that and scheduled it for me this April. I am a bit concerned because this is my first bunny and like usually if I want to spay my cat , the cat must be vaccinated first and the proceed to the spay/neuter process but when I ask if my bunny need to be vaccinated first then the clinic kinda like confused and said that the only smallest animal they have vaccine is kitten. So I kinda doubting it a bit and my mom said to not neuter her but I have to go back to campus on May so I would like my bunny to be less aggressive so it would be easier for my lil sister to take care of her.

Is Carina generally more chill or anxious? My Shadow will be spayed in less than 2 weeks and she's got what I assume some PTSD issues and generally has behavioral problems with being contained for forced. She's improved so much since her abuser sister died about a year ago but I'm scared she's going to move around too much even if she's in a small space. Do you have any advice?

My vet recommended to use collar so he won’t harm himself but I can see him struggling eating and drinking. What should I do?
@BudgetBunny3 жыл бұрын
If you can closely supervise I would recommend taking off the collar. We were sent home with one as a precaution but told not to use it unless we have to. It makes it difficult for them to eat and drink and most importantly reach the caecotrophs they need to eat to get all of their nutrients. If their pain is managed they really shouldn’t be bothering with the incision. I’ve been through the surgery five times with rabbits now - the other three were neutered prior to adoption - and have never had an issue or needed to use the collar.

Rabbits have increased risk of uterine cancer by age of 3. Mine is young and not sure how old. The rescue thinks she is 2 and she just got spayed yesterday.
