I just got a rabbit. She’s a small Holland lop, only 2 months of age. At first, I got her as a gift and didn’t really know what I was doing. For the first two days I would pick her up and hold her even though she clearly didn’t like it. And when she would try to get down and end up scratching me I would instinctively yell which would scare here. Despite that and all my mistakes the first two days- she’s an absolute sweetheart.. she hardly held a grudge against me at all. I am 14, switching between 2 houses thanks to my parents being divorced. I try to comfort her in the constant car rides, and I have two boxer dogs at one home, but I live on the third level of the house and stay in my room most of the time. I’m trying to do all the research I can to allow Taiga (bunny) to have an awesome life.. but I feel so bad because at my dads. She’s not allowed to have a play pen unless I buy it. That wouldn’t be an issue, as I would happily but her a large playpen, the only issues are that I had to buy a lot of the things at the other house and I don’t have a valid way to earn money. I’m trying my best- but sadly at one house she’s in a play pen and at the others she’s in the typical PetSmart cage with a plastic ramp and food bowel. At one house she has lots of toys, a large pen and large litter box- while at the other she has a tiny cage and tiny litter box. At the house with the cage I keep her out with me in my room for an average of 5-8 hours a day, and I’m doing my best- but do you guys have any suggestions? I wanna make taiga happy :( She’s only 2 months of age so I can’t get her spayed yet, but she doesn’t seem too aggressive. She occasionally nips, albeit hard- but I’m trying to teach her that it isn’t okay or to nip softer. I would never ever hit her and I’m just trying to teach her with vocal speech. I love her very much already and she’s slowly getting used to me, but I’m worried she’s not happy at the house with the cage.. I’ll do my best to save up to get a play pen for her. But until then I’m unsure of what to do.

Crazy story alert: we got a rabbit in august 2020 and bought him thinking he’s a boy. A few weeks later we took him to get neutered and it turned out he’s a girl. So we were surprised but moved on yk. Today we took her to get spayed and the vet says that actually she was a boy and they were wrong all along. I’m still tryna process this......

How did it go? I just adopted a bun today after his nueter this morning. I am almost too afraid to take him tomorrow. He was using his pine pellet litter already, and they didn’t mention any antibiotics or pain meds, only meloxicam, I guess that could be pain relief as an anti inflammatory. I’m so worried as I have lost a bun before.

Hope it went well! - My little Alfie was about completely litter trained until he got to be about 4 to 5 months. He now drops all over the place. Some of it definitely seems territorial, and he even sprayed only once when we all sat on the guest bed and watched TV (it is located inn the basement suite that isn unoccupied, but where Alfie's night cage is. He had been jumping on the bed and started dropping on it only after I changed the bedspread to one that had our scent on it! ) Also other indications of territorial dropping. ... So, I have to train him all over agin, and I had to resort to caging / penning him or keeping him outside until surgery (in 2 days now, I had a long wait w scheduling.). Will his training get better again when his hormones go down? He's such a good, sweet boy and only pees in litter box or on pee pee pads. Thanks.,

I so glad to see him well and having a good appetite 🙌 🙏 💙 good luck on bonding! Both my males had harder times after their neutering and my female was fine right away (eating her hay in a carrier and flopped several times first night) so I feel like it vary depending on personality and stress resistance.

Yes I agree, the anaesthesia is definitely tough on them so they all bounce back differently. We have a variety of pets in the house and I am just naturally more nervous when any of my females need a spay because it’s just a more invasive surgery, with a greater risk of herniation and larger incision to worry about. Because it’s on their tummy it tends to bother them more. Glad in the end all of your buns recovered just fine. 💗😘

I have two brothers that are 4 months. They started fighting a month ago so I've kept them separate since 🙁 Would you know if there's a chance of them bonding again and being okay together after they're both neutered? This won't be for another 2+ months of keeping them separate. I'm really worried. It's also important to note that I have two separated x-pens but they're in the same room and I alternate between the two on free roam time. Poop. Everywhere. I can't wait for neuter day.

Yes there is. But you would need to have them both side by side in xpens so they can smell each other. Then you would most likely put them in a laundry basket and rock them back and forth. Then put them in the same xpen but with a divider separating them. If you need more tips just ask me. I do volunteer at a bunny rescue. Don’t worry about it and if they don’t get along anymore just keep them separate 😃

@@jaxx9476 hey I edited my original comment for more context! I'm confused with them because I do rotate who is in their respective pen and who is out. Sometimes they'll lay side by side through the pen and sometimes they'll throw hands.

@@danamaze how close are the xpens? I think for now just leave them alone and separate from each other. Are they litter trained? Don’t move them around to each other’s cages, it can cause them to associate territorial issues with each other after they get nuterd

As Kenzie mentioned once they have both been neutered you can work on rebonding them about 1 month post-op. This time is needed for them to heal and their hormones to die down. Keep them in adjacent areas as much as possible in the mean time where they can see and smell one another but not touch to accidentally hurt each other. I’m sure once it’s all said and done they’ll be happy to have one another for company again! ☺️

Did any of them wear a cone? Ours were sent home with a cone and we’re told they had to wear them for 10-14 days for a neuter.

Hello! 😘 So because I got Arlo from a family who was rehoming him he wasn’t neutered until he was around 10 months (around 8 months when I got him and then had to wait for our surgery date). While animals can be safely fixed earlier on I wouldn’t recommend doing it before 6 months unless it’s needed (ex We had female and male cat siblings so we did them right at 5 months under our vets recommendation just to be safe and not risk a pregnancy). Rabbits are sensitive to anaesthesia and when you add on the risk of their bodies being that much smaller for a surgery I don’t think it’s worth the risk when there isn’t a sound reason to do so. ☺️ By 6 months they’re typically full grown and hormones developed so a better and safer time to have him neutered. ❤️ I also just wanted to say - please make sure you are confident with this vet and that they are skilled with bunnies and been working with them for a long time - exotic vets require more schooling etc. A spay / neuter for a rabbit shouldn’t be any more risky than having a cat or dog done if you have a rabbit savvy vet but as they do require different anaesthesia levels and have very sensitive systems you want someone you know has performed the surgery successfully for a long period of time. 💗

@@finallythere100 it was sad to see him the first 2 weeks for me. He won’t eat or run around and his eyes will be puffy and he will also be sad and I slept beside my bunny for 28 days and thats how much days he was wearing his cone but everyday we would take it off for like 5 mins and watch him just in case he tried to pick at his stitches. But yeah I cried a lot the first few days I still have pics of the day I took him in . Neutering a bunny makes them live longer though, he doesn’t pee anywhere now not poop on the couch or rugs ^.^ and he is VERY majestic now and loving and he grooms so much more now haha he is basically a big baby again ^.^ but yeah you’ll love it months after the neutering. Your male will be a new happy bunny in a month if so but my male still tries to hump the female but it’s because she isn’t spayed so he can smell his pee
