Rabies Scare

In October 然然 (Rán Rán) got nipped by a cat in the neighborhood. We thought it was a neighbor's cat, but it turned out they don't have a cat!. This meant we had to see the doctor and 然然 had to get emergency rabies preventive treatment. The preventive (or prophylaxis) protocol includes the rabies vaccination and some rabies immunoglobulin (antibodies that will fight off rabies if you've contracted it).

Important things we learned about cat bites and rabies:
* cat bites ALMOST always result in nasty infections; all cat bites should be assessed by a doctor
* some deep bites, or bites from stray cats will include broken bits of tooth
* cats are not common rabies vectors, but it's possible
* rabies is pretty much always fatal, and there is no cure once symptoms show up
* skunks are the animal most likely to carry rabies
* bats are the animal most likely to give rabies to humans
