This disease dates back thousands of years, asking where it came from is like asking where the flu came from. Might be possible to answer, but would be extreeeeeeeeeemly hard. It's not like you can carbon date some virus, maybe you could try to make inheritance studies to try to figure out the changes in genes, but it's not like virus have convenient mitochondrial DNA you can easily track

Its scary that when you see someone foaming in the mouth that's a sign of rabies the reason why they foam because ONCE you have rabies you start foaming because your body is now a fear of water or saliva, so you don't want to swallow your saliva or water, then you will try to swallow but you spit it out then you will die in a COMA.
