When QSI purchased PSG in 2011, they began spending their way to domination in France. Their ultimate goal has been the champions League, and while they came close in 2020, they still haven’t won it. With Messi, Mbappé and Neymar all gone now, PSG’s are in a completely new era, with a new way of doing things. PSG are finally starting to utilize their academy, which was a rarity before. With Luis Campos as PSG’s advisor, they are signing younger players in an attempt to grow their own stars, rather than pay through the nose for older, established stars. And with Luis Enrique as the head coach, he is finally giving opportunities to these young, talented players that they have. This could get scary for Europe if they finally pull from their strengths!

As a French and PSG fan for more than 30 years, I agree with you. The "bling-bling" period was necessary to improve the PSG brand in the world. They have been building a reputation for 10 years, with the Qatar World Cup in 2022 as their target. They already knew in 2012 when they buy the club there would be a before and an after world cup. Nasser's interview takes place in the off-season that precedes a few months the world cup. After the World Cup, the change was radical. Exit Neymar, Messi, Verratti, Mbappe... in less than two years. The only player left today from the previous period is Marquinhos. And as a PSG fan, I can assure you that we are living again. We could no longer support the drama of stars. This guy makes a post on the social medias because he is not happy to play this position... this guy does an interview because he wants to shoot the penalties... this guy is not happy with the coach’s choices... We were talking about all the whims, but never about team and football. As Tuchel said when he left the club : "I do more politics than football". We couldn’t stand it anymore this pile of individualistic players. And now, even if the players are less known, we finally regain football, game, tactics, players who play collectively as a team, a coach who is not afraid of drama if he get a player out of the pitch in the 85th minute of a 5-0 win... I would say that qatarians now adopts for PSG a similar strategy to those made by Abu-Dabi with Man-City : less marketing, more sport. And whatever the result, that's cool ! I find again pleasure to watch this team play, whereas I had lost it during the Messi-Neymar-Mbappe era.

I'm French and PSG fan too. I do agree about the most you say. However that strategy before has a downside as PSG has become the laughing stock in France and all Europe as everyone sees PSG failing in the UCL. I think the approach could be understood for the marketing aspect but was the wrong path to improve in Europe. The big mistake PSG has made so far is after the disastrous campaign of 2016 - 2017 with the famous remontada. They kind of panicked and made those recruitement of star players, jeopardizing the whole balance of the team. I think a big mistake they made is also to pay more than necessary for players and that cause trouble when they want to sell them.

I am french and live in Paris and it is always heart breaking to read some bulsh****** comment like that! Too much PSG fans act like spoiled children who no longer know how to play with the toys they are given. We had the chance to have Messi, Mbappe, neymar and others great players for our city and lots of PSG fans spend more time complaining about it than enjoy it.... even with a team that has had the best results in PSG's history (almost all the domestic titles, 2 semi-finals of the C1 and a final and every year qualified for the knockout stages of the C1). Every big club has to deal with bullsh***** drama stars. In fact, that's why they're so popular. But that is not a reason for losing the pleasure or the dedication to the club! ManU spend more money than PSG in the last 10 years and look at their result. Much worse than Paris man! And MAnu is still way more popular that City in Manchester and the entire world! The main reason PSG fan lost thair faith it is not about the drama, not about the individualistic player ambition, not about the marketing, not about the politic a coach has to do (Tuchel is the worst example you can give.. this guy never coach a team more than 2 years, he actually coached way longer the PSG than his others clubs ).... it is because the spoiled children expectations were a little bit too hight (they were pretty close to win th C1 and fan like you do not even enjoy it).....

@@PowShakeleke I would prefer not having Messi, Neymar, Mbappe at all but growing the whole team first like Man City... Man U has become the laughing stock of England but HAS ALREADY 5 UCL... Better is subjective. The strategy before was clearly to build PSG as a bigger brand. Using big football stars like beckham and zlatan to Messi and Neymar and mbappe. Using brands like Jordan brand to make PSG merch cool to wear and growing their support with Arab/muslim communities. Now they have all of this, having big stars is not as important and they can focus on buying younger and developing their players like an organic football team.

The owners main goal, until 2022 WC, was to build something huge on and mostly beyond the pitch, making PSG one of the most important international brands in sports. The strategy of signing big names was successful business wise, nothing to say... But its limits showed everytime in ECL against more cohesive projects. There is a reason why PSG tried to fast-track their way into success in Europe, and this is my theory on it. Ever since QSI bought PSG in 2011(coincidental that it happened at around the same time that Qatar launched their bid to host the 2022 World Cup) they were already on countdown mode as Qatar wanted to have a Champions League winning club under their belt, to boost their sporting reputation ahead of the World Cup. But for that, they chose an unnecessary path for that, and it failed spectacularly every single season. It is also coincidental that the time they chose to let go of their "bling-bling" approach was after the 2022 World Cup. Now that the board and Al Khaleifi are not under that baggage, they can start to focus and do their own thing, building their project on their academy, essentially following Barca's example which made them succeed during their golden period. Now if you think about it, PSGs academy could give other top academies a run for their money.

The thing that is missing for PSG has always been a mildly competitive domestic league. A league like La Liga to Real Madrid and Bundesliga to Bayern, it's moderately hard but never dangerous for them so that they can be kept on edge week in week out while still preserve energy for the CL knockouts.

Yeah but the REAL problem is that every time a new talent come out, they leave one year after. If the French team kept their players, the league would probably be one of if not the best league in the world. It’s the league of talent. Great of the game like Henry, cantona, Zidane, Mbappe all came from that league. That’s sad because many people think it’s a bad league but their are so many great players but unfortunately they don’t stay long when they flourish

The thing is, Paris and Paris' suburb is the biggest pool of top player in the world. Coman, Maignan, Mahrez, Nkunku, Pogba, Mbappe, Saliba, Rabiot, Kanté, Dembele, Koundé, Konate... The list is BIG. And with these players you can make 90% of a UCL winning team. You only have to recruit the type of player you need to balance this team out (because a lot of French player are very physical player in general, you'll need to add technical players that often come from Spain, Portugal or Bresil). PSG should not be only a team with players coming from Paris, but it should use the talents there and recruit the missing profils. And when you look at the PSG actually, it's pretty well balanced. So maybe the club figured it out...

It's signing 50 of them, half of which they don't even need, and constantly being forced to sell or loan out a lot because of that, which hurts team stability. They did it Mpabbe and were successful in lowballing Rennes Eduardo Camavinga but failed with Lene Yoro. If you meant to say signing free players in their prime like Alaba and Rudiger. Sure there are clubs like Bayern who gotten Lewandowski, PSG with Donnarumma and Juventus with Pogba. But which club has actually utilized the lowballing tactic like Real Madrid?
