I have a similar coop for my ducks and we made a wood frame that goes around the door. And we open the door inwards only. It works great. Good luck!

I left cat food out one night and when I heard chewing I opened the door too see a giant raccoon eating casually with his hands. He didn't even stop when I opened the door he just watched me but kept eating. Less than a foot away, I could have easily touched him. He has zero fear of me which made me afraid of him of course. lol.

Instead of spreading the food around inside the coop/run, I would try and keep it in a container or contained area to prevent any intrusion as well… they may still try to get in as the food on the ground is left inside the coop.

Watching this one-year after you posted… Did the raccoons ever get back in the run after you added the additional hardware cloth?

Please be safe, I am so happy that your babies are okay :) OMG raccoons are a nightmare years ago we have one of our rescue hens killed by one of them are we were devastated :( :( Ever since we have taken measures so that doesn't happen again. Please add a skirt all over the gated area tooThey hate strong herb odors, cayenne, all spices, etc.. Take anything they can get to out like food and water. Put motion sensors, sound, music, lights and all that you can. Get some good netting that is strong, burry some hardwire mesh deep, and put hardwire skirt and secure your chickens at night. I love this channel check her out at Welcome to Chickenlandia. Can I ask you what type of food are you feeding them?

Thank you so much! I'm sorry you lost your hen to one. I think I will change their feeder so there's less food spillage and then remove it at night. I will for sure add the hardware skirt under the front door area. I didn't think of that. Thank you so much for all the tips! I'm going to also look for a stronger netting. I do follow her! I haven't watched any videos lately but I'll start again.

They will kill your chickens. I'm so glad your girls weren't hurt. I had a possum get into mine and I had to fortify my run.

what camera do you have in your run?
@TheThriftedPlanter8 ай бұрын
I'm not sure of the brand but it's a nature camera that can be mounted. I got it from the Nestera site and they don't have it anymore. They have a new type of camera.

I read that raccoons do like the scent the ammonia if the chickens aren’t adverse to that try pouring ammonia all around the coop

Your zip ties are doing nothing. Take pictures of your chickens because that's all your going to have. Not being mean just telling you that's not enough to keep raccoons out.

This cracked me up about taking the pictures haha! Yes, I'm working on making it better. Going to hardwire the whole thing

After You get the Hardware Cloth wire it in place don’t use zip ties
