Yeah, they should cover up an incident where a race car landed in the grandstands... So, some people believe that news media should only report on news that supports their beliefs. No, it's better to take in all the facts, good or bad, and THEN make up your mind about something. Now, knowing what you do about those grandstands at the track, are you gonna put your grandbabies there for the next race? That's what news helps you decide.

Agreed, but at the same time that fence looks far sketchier than any of the tracks I've ever been to. And with a gap there it allows a car to hit that portion of the fence head on like it did. I'm just thankful the tracks I go to have better fencing than that. There's always a risk for fans, but sometimes that risk is elevated by quality and design.

I've seen flag men come close to eating it a few times. Usually involving a sprint car. One tore down the flag stand and tore out a section of fence at one track I was at. I'd never seen anyone go down a ladder backwards, let alone running. He literally just made it.

New Englander local 1/4 mile oval Highbank track had what was called the widow maker corners as there was a sharp 15-20-foot drop on other side. Cars often went over, air born or rolled, had some jump the wall twice in turn 4 grandstands, then the wall was kind of tilted back creating a ramp effect now the wall is facing down a bit to force physics to keep the car seated to the surface. These were 50 60 70 era cars. Had a few deaths, careers ended due to injury. Now they have new lighting, surround wall and catch fence. A new tower and got rid of the rickety wood and steal stands for concrete. I completely respect the need for driver, and spectator safety and the idea the track was around 50 + decades speak volumes when other tracks closed. This track is my home, can't go as often as I used to, but knowing it is thriving in this market tells me the owners have a good idea about how to run a business. Miss the excitement of a car going over the banking, or scarping the wall and rolling, flipping or just spinning taking others out which is the point, but it is what it is. Try to catch the 2025 season opener.

Most of the time, business only improves safety after a tragedy or when legally mandated. Why is that? It's because those business owners love their money more than they care about others. Yes, they want more safety, but not if they have to pay for it. If they can get away with no updates, they will, regardless of the danger.
