Thank you for the great video! I am original from a small village, named Scaletta Zanclea, clearly visible at: 26:27. The small chapel on the right is still there today. I found a very small video about it but I prefer not to upload the link due to the stringent KZbin rules. I clearly remember some stories I heard from my grand mother about WW2. She used to tell me about the terror of the bombings and how they ran for shelter. She used to tell me about the unsettling sensation of the doors and windows vibrating during the naval battle of Punta Stilo.... Again, very interesting documentary!

Have been following this series and have viewed some of the other ones on the Playlist. Well done. I like the narration. It's quirky. AI isn't it? Different, but interesting. Thanks for the post. Cheers from Tennessee

The narrative is so difficult to follow, I have given up. Disappointing as I enjoy this stream.

It really is a shame that the Allies went with Montgomery's plan instead of Patton's plan. Patton's plan would have them cut off those retreating German troops and the war in Italy wouldn't have been as rough as it was! Oh, well. This is what happens when your commanding officer (Eisenhower) stops being an American and becomes an Ally! To this day it amazes me how a desk jockey (Eisenhower) became commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force. And the other thing that's truly amazing is how useless Omar Bradley was in this campaign. Yet he was promoted over Gen. Patton! Go figure!

Once they figured the jig was up, the Germans only concern was evacuating their troops across from Messina to the mainland They stayed two moves ahead of the Allies throughout the campaign due to phased withdrawals to the five defense lines set up to delay Allied advances. They recycled the same strategy to defend Italy. Bradley's promotion was completely due to Patton's disgraceful "slappening" events.
